Its documented controls for ads, Yahoo News App feeds, location, and account data are separate; Yahoo’s reviewed help material does not identify a homepage-wide switch for turning off story recommendations.
Why am I seeing recommendations on my Yahoo homepage?
Yahoo describes “For you” as a personalized news section and says, “Articles in ‘For you’ are recommended based on your recent activity.” It does not provide a complete list of the activity or other signals used, or explain the recommendation algorithm.
The homepage also includes other content, such as trending news and searches, local weather, horoscopes, stocks, and sports scores. Yahoo says trending stories are ranked by the amount of news coverage; that is distinct from its description of the personalized “For you” articles. See Yahoo’s overview of the homepage.
Can I turn off “For you” recommendations?
Yahoo’s reviewed homepage help does not identify a dedicated setting to disable “For you” recommendations across the homepage. The documented opt-out for customized ads is an advertising control, not a stated way to switch off recommended stories.

Can I change what appears in the Yahoo News App feed?
If you use the Yahoo News App, Yahoo documents feed controls that let you review selected interests, block publishers, and block keywords or phrases in article titles. Yahoo’s instructions require at least five selected interests. These are News App feed preferences; Yahoo does not describe them as universal settings for the desktop homepage. How do I turn off personalized ads on Yahoo?
Yahoo’s Ad Interest Manager is the control for customized advertising. Yahoo says, “Ad relevance is determined by the preferences and account info you’ve shared in the Yahoo Ad Interest Manager.” You can opt out of customized ads there; Yahoo says you will still see generic ads. On supported ads, Yahoo may show an ad icon that explains why an ad was selected and links to preference controls. Yahoo also says users can submit feedback on supported ads to help adjust future ads. These features relate to ads, not the homepage’s story recommendations.
Where are Yahoo privacy controls?
Yahoo’s Privacy Dashboard and Controls let you inspect and manage how information associated with your account is used with Yahoo products. Yahoo says users can review summaries linked to products or devices and, for many products, follow a link to account settings to edit information. Yahoo Account Help says you can request a download of account information. Yahoo states that a download can take up to 30 days to become available and, once complete, remains available for 30 days. Does Yahoo use commercial email or location to personalize content?

Yahoo says enabling the use of commercial email data can personalize ads and content across Yahoo sites and services. It describes these as structured messages from retailers and other organizations, and says it does not analyze emails from friends and family for this personalization purpose. You can change the preference in the “Commercial Email Insights and Analysis” section of Privacy Dashboard and Controls. Yahoo documents a toggle for precise location information in Privacy Controls. Its app overview says device location services may be enabled for customized content, including relevant nearby deals. This establishes a separate location control, but Yahoo’s help material does not establish precise location as a basis for homepage news recommendations.
