The change does not mean every MIUI phone will stop working or lose updates on one global cutoff date: Xiaomi has not announced a universal MIUI end date, and HyperOS availability depends on the model and region.
What Xiaomi means by moving from MIUI to HyperOS
Xiaomi described HyperOS as part of a strategic shift from “Smartphone × AIoT” toward “Human × Car × Home.” Its stated aim is to connect personal devices, cars, and smart-home products in one ecosystem, with priorities including connectivity, proactive intelligence, security, and an open platform. These are Xiaomi’s goals for the product, not independent findings about performance.
Xiaomi said HyperOS combines Xiaomi Vela with deep customization of Linux. That describes the company’s stated software foundation; it does not by itself establish how a particular phone will perform or which features it will receive. Xiaomi’s 2023 company announcement introduced the platform in October of that year.
Does this mean MIUI is shutting down?
No universal shutdown date follows from Xiaomi’s announcement. It did not say that every device running MIUI would stop working or stop receiving updates on the same date. Support depends on the specific model and market, so a broad “goodbye to MIUI” headline should not be read as a notice that all existing phones are being switched off.

For context, Xiaomi reported 623.1 million global MIUI monthly active users in September 2023, up 10.5% year over year. That is a company-reported figure for that month, not a current user count or evidence of how many people have migrated to HyperOS.
Will your Xiaomi phone get HyperOS, and when?
Check the exact model and regional variant against Xiaomi’s current rollout information for your country. A device name alone may not establish eligibility or timing: rollout stages and features can differ by region, model, and software version. Xiaomi’s global HyperOS 3 page lists staged groups for Xiaomi, REDMI, and POCO devices, but warns that the supported-model list and schedule may change. Treat it as a guide rather than a guaranteed update date.

- Model and variant: Confirm the full device name and regional version.
- Country and rollout stage: A listed device may receive an update at different times in different markets.
- System version and features: Eligible devices do not necessarily receive identical capabilities.
- Language and services: Xiaomi says selected AI features are limited by model, language, and region; some features may also require a separate app or app update.
Xiaomi’s U.S. HyperOS overview once identified the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, Xiaomi 14, Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro 12.4, and Xiaomi Pad 6 as first devices for interconnectivity features, with over-the-air releases described as starting in Q2 2024. That was a historical rollout reference, not a current list of the only eligible devices; Xiaomi also noted timing could vary by model and system version. See the U.S. HyperOS overview.
Is HyperOS still being developed?
Yes. HyperOS has continued beyond its 2023 introduction. Xiaomi’s 2026 interim report, published August 13, 2026, says a HyperOS 4 beta launched in August 2026. That establishes ongoing development, but not a stable-release date, a list of eligible phones, or a worldwide rollout schedule for HyperOS 4.

What should you consider before changing phones?
You do not need to buy a new phone simply because Xiaomi introduced HyperOS. If you are deciding whether to keep your current device or replace it, first check its regional support status and the specific features you want. The practical difference is not just the operating-system name: it is whether your model receives the update and whether the functions you care about work in your region and language. Do not assume that every future Xiaomi phone, or every Xiaomi-branded device, will receive the same version or feature set.
