The Xiaomi Redmi Pad 2 9.7 is a compact, entry-level Android tablet best suited to watching video, browsing, social media and ordinary school or college work. Its 120Hz display and metal body are appealing for a budget device, but sluggish performance under heavier workloads, modest screen brightness, weak speakers and slow charging mean it does not handle literally everything—and it is not a laptop replacement.
Which tablet is this, and what did Notebookcheck test?
This is the Redmi Pad 2 9.7, not the older Redmi Pad with a 10.61-inch screen and Helio G99 processor. Notebookcheck’s September 26, 2026 review covers the Wi-Fi model with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The review also notes an LTE version and a 128GB listing; configurations and availability depend on region. See the Notebookcheck review for the device’s full test details.
What do you get for the money?
Notebookcheck reported an approximate launch MSRP of $190. Its September 26, 2026 Amazon price snapshots were $159.99 for the 64GB/4GB model and $184.99 for the 128GB/4GB model. A separate September 30, 2026 article said the tablet was available for less than $160 on Amazon. These are dated prices, not a guarantee of today’s listing or a universal price; check the current cost for your region and exact configuration before buying.
How well does it handle everyday tasks?
For video, web browsing, social apps and routine school or college tasks, the reviewed configuration offers a practical basic setup: a Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 2 chip, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of built-in storage. Notebookcheck found performance sluggish under heavier use. Frequent multitasking and graphics-intensive games are a poor fit, and this is not a substitute for a laptop or a higher-performance tablet.

What are the screen and build like?
The tablet has a 9.7-inch LCD with a 2048 × 1280 resolution and refresh rates up to 120Hz. The higher refresh rate can make scrolling and other interactions feel smoother. Notebookcheck measured average brightness at about 416 cd/m² in its review tests and found no PWM dimming. The reviewer nevertheless identifies brightness and sharpness as compromises, so the screen’s refresh rate should not be mistaken for a premium display. The metal unibody is a positive at this entry-level tier.
How much storage and battery does it have?
The tested model has 64GB of storage, and the review reports microSD expansion support for cards up to 2TB. A card can help with downloaded media and files, but it does not turn the tablet into a faster model or replace its internal storage for every use.

The battery capacity is 7,600mAh. Notebookcheck reports charging up to 18W and a full recharge time of about 1.5 hours in its test. That is a relatively slow recharge if you regularly need to top up in a hurry.
Should you choose Wi-Fi or LTE?
The Wi-Fi version does not have satellite positioning, according to Notebookcheck. The LTE version includes A-GPS, so buyers who want mobile data and positioning should confirm that the specific regional model offers both. The tablet’s USB 2.0 connection does not support wired video output.

What are the software support and accessory limits?
Notebookcheck tested the tablet with Android 16 and HyperOS 3. Its September 2026 review says Xiaomi lists security support through April 2033, with quarterly patches planned, and expected Android upgrades up to version 21. These are the policy details reported at review time and may change; check Xiaomi’s current support information for your market before relying on a long update horizon.
The package is listed with a USB cable, but no fast charger or protective case. The optional Redmi Stylus For Pad is a basic input accessory, not a drawing pen: Notebookcheck says it lacks a digitizer, palm rejection and pressure sensitivity. If you need note-taking or art features that depend on pen precision, look for a device and stylus designed for that work.

Who should buy the Redmi Pad 2 9.7?
- Consider it if your priorities are affordable video viewing, browsing, social media and uncomplicated school tasks, and you value a compact metal tablet with a high-refresh-rate screen.
- Look higher up the range if you regularly keep many apps active, play demanding games, need stronger speakers, or want brighter and sharper display performance. Notebookcheck points buyers with greater performance needs toward a higher tier such as the Xiaomi Pad 8, but its review does not establish a current head-to-head value ranking.
- Check the exact variant if you need LTE, GPS, more built-in storage, or a microSD card slot; availability and configurations vary by region.
