Xiaomi 17: higher-tier stated platform
Xiaomi lists the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for the Xiaomi 17, while the REDMI Note 15 Pro+ 5G uses the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4. The chip families place the Xiaomi 17 in the higher stated tier, but the available specifications do not establish a measured performance gap. They also do not tell you how either phone performs in a particular game or workload.
What that means when choosing

Which phone has the better camera setup?
The REDMI’s headline is a 200MP OIS main camera, accompanied by an 8MP ultrawide. Xiaomi lists three 50MP rear cameras for the Xiaomi 17, including a 60mm-equivalent telephoto with OIS. That dedicated telephoto gives the Xiaomi 17 a more versatile listed rear-camera arrangement for subjects that benefit from optical reach.
Megapixel counts alone do not establish which phone takes better photos. Which display size is right for you?
The REDMI Note 15 Pro+ 5G has the larger display at 6.83 inches, with 1.5K AMOLED resolution and a stated refresh rate up to 120Hz. The Xiaomi 17’s 6.3-inch display is the more compact option and is listed with a 1–120Hz refresh rate in Xiaomi’s UK specifications.
Choose the REDMI if a larger viewing area is a priority. The Xiaomi 17 is the more compact choice based on its stated screen size. Neither screen size alone establishes overall comfort or handling for every user.

Battery capacity and charging differences
Xiaomi India lists a 6,500mAh battery and 100W charging for the REDMI Note 15 Pro+ 5G. Xiaomi lists the Xiaomi 17 with a 6,330mAh typical battery capacity, 100W wired charging, and 50W wireless charging. The Xiaomi 17 therefore adds wireless charging in its listed specification, while the REDMI has the higher listed capacity in the India specification.
Battery capacity does not establish real-world endurance. No independent battery-life measurements are available here, and Xiaomi’s regional variants mean the India REDMI figure should not be assumed to apply worldwide.

Xiaomi India store snapshots showed the REDMI Note 15 Pro+ 8GB/256GB at ₹39,999 and the Xiaomi 17 12GB/512GB at ₹89,999—a ₹50,000 difference. These are prices for different memory and storage configurations, and store promotions can change; check the current local listing before buying.
Xiaomi investor-relations reporting lists a global Xiaomi 17 launch starting price of EUR 999. That figure is not a direct comparison with the India REDMI listing: the market, price context, and configuration differ. - Choose the REDMI Note 15 Pro+ 5G if you prefer a larger 6.83-inch display, a 200MP main-camera specification, or the lower of the two India store snapshot prices.
- Compare local listings carefully if price is decisive: the cited India listings have different RAM and storage, and availability, package contents, network bands, and specifications can vary by region.
