There is not enough current, market-specific pricing in the available information to name reliable midrange or budget winners, so treat “different budgets” as a local-shopping question rather than assuming Chinese prices translate to your country. Xiaomi has said the 18 Pro series is going global this year, but a September 2026 report said it had not named the markets, launch date, or global prices. Check for a Xiaomi listing in your country before deciding whether to wait or buy an alternative.
What to know before choosing an alternative
The Xiaomi 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max are reported flagship phones with rear displays and a Smart Privacy Display feature. A September 2026 hands-on report described the feature but said the reporter could not unlock the demo phone to test it, so its real-world performance is not established. The same report lists a 6.4-inch display for the Pro and a 6.9-inch display for the Pro Max, along with three rear cameras: 200MP main and telephoto cameras and a 50MP ultra-wide. These are reported specifications, not a guarantee that a future regional model will be identical. TechRadar’s September 2026 report
Xiaomi founder and CEO Lei Jun was reported as saying, “Our global users have been asking for this, and it’s coming.” Xiaomi’s company account was also reported to have said, “Xiaomi 18 Pro Series is going global this year.” Neither statement named a country or date. The reported Chinese starting prices—¥5,999 for the Pro and ¥6,999 for the Pro Max—are China prices, not estimates of local launch prices. | Apple iPhone 18 Pro | Premium phone for someone willing to switch to iOS | Apple announced a US starting price of $1,199; availability began September 18, 2026, in first-wave markets, with 20 additional countries and regions beginning September 25. The comparison lists a 48MP main camera with variable aperture and a 48MP 4x optical telephoto. Choose the Galaxy S26 Ultra for Android camera flexibility
The Samsung is the clearer premium Android candidate in the available comparison. Its listed 3x and 5x telephoto cameras offer two distinct zoom perspectives; the Xiaomi’s reported 200MP telephoto resolution alone does not establish that its photos are better. Megapixels and lens counts cannot settle image quality, low-light results, video performance, or ease of use. Compare sample images and video from the models sold in your market if those are deciding factors.

Choose the iPhone 18 Pro if iOS matters more than staying with Android
The iPhone is a credible alternative if you prefer iOS, already use Apple devices, or value the app and service ecosystem. Its listed variable-aperture main camera and 4x optical telephoto describe a different camera setup from Samsung’s. The comparison does not establish an overall camera winner, and the US price and launch dates should not be treated as global terms.
How to shop by budget without guessing
A useful budget shortlist depends on the country where you will buy. The available information gives no current local prices for a complete set of midrange or budget phones, so assigning winners to those tiers would be unreliable. Use a local price ceiling and compare phones actually in stock there rather than converting the Xiaomi’s China prices or assuming that a flagship alternative is affordable in every market.

- Set your local ceiling. Use the price you can pay from a local retailer or carrier, including any required plan, taxes, or trade-in conditions. Do not use the reported Chinese Xiaomi prices as a local estimate.
- Confirm regional availability. Check the manufacturer’s country site and reputable local retailers for the exact model, variant, warranty, and stock. Samsung’s reported global availability does not guarantee local inventory; Apple’s launch dates cover specified markets, not every country.
- Filter by platform and size. Decide whether you want Android or iOS, then compare display size and in-hand dimensions. The reported Xiaomi Pro and Pro Max screen sizes differ, and a larger display may be a poor fit if one-handed use matters.
- Match cameras to how you shoot. Compare the available focal lengths, video features, and real sample results for the regional versions. Do not rank cameras by megapixels alone.
- Check the details that affect daily use. Review software features available in your region, update support, warranty coverage, and return terms before paying. The cited comparisons do not establish directly comparable battery-life or performance test results.
Should you wait for the Xiaomi 18 Pro?
Wait if the rear display, reported camera configuration, or Xiaomi software is specifically what you want and you can postpone buying until Xiaomi publishes a listing for your market. The global-release statements are a plan, not confirmation that the phone will launch in your country on a known date or at a known price.
Buy an available alternative if you need a phone now or prefer the Samsung Android or Apple iOS ecosystem. Xiaomi 17 Ultra is another Xiaomi-family camera flagship mentioned as available in the UK and Europe and, unlike the Oppo Find X9 Ultra, Australia; that reporting does not establish its current price or stock, so verify local listings and regional model details. The same comparison says Xiaomi 17 Pro models were China-only. TechRadar comparison
