Yes—Xbox Game Pass prices rose in 2024, but not by one uniform amount worldwide. Microsoft’s announced increases varied by country, plan and currency; in the U.S., for example, PC Game Pass for new members went from $9.99 to $11.99. The 2024 Game Pass Standard plan also needs a time marker: Xbox’s current plan page uses Essential, Premium, Ultimate and PC Game Pass, with Premium now occupying a similar middle-tier role.
There is another upcoming change for cloud players: Xbox announced that monthly cloud-gaming allowances will begin in November 2026. Here’s what changed, how the current plans differ, and what to check before your next renewal.
Did Xbox Game Pass prices go up?
Yes. Microsoft’s 2024 price table listed different increases for different markets and plans, rather than a single global price change. Its U.S. example for PC Game Pass was a move from $9.99 to $11.99 for new members. That figure describes the new-member price in the U.S.; it should not be treated as the price in every country or as the amount every existing subscriber pays.
Microsoft’s 2024 table also covered Ultimate and annual Core prices, but the available figures here do not establish their exact changes. Check the price shown for your own country and account before deciding whether to renew.

What was Game Pass Standard?
Xbox launched Game Pass Standard on September 10, 2024. It combined Core-style benefits—including online console multiplayer and member discounts—with access to hundreds of console games. Xbox positioned it between Core and Ultimate: Standard did not include Ultimate’s day-one games, cloud gaming or EA Play, according to Xbox’s launch guide.
Standard is a historical plan name, not one of the four labels on Xbox’s current plan page. That page lists Essential, Premium, Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Premium’s current description makes it the closest match to Standard’s middle-tier role, but that does not establish that every market renamed Standard on the same date or that the plans have identical terms.

How do the current Game Pass plans differ?
Xbox’s current descriptions distinguish the plans mainly by game library, day-one access and platform. Game counts and availability can change by region, plan and platform.
| Plan | Current Xbox description | Useful distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Essential | 50+ games and online console multiplayer | Entry option for console multiplayer and a smaller included library. |
| Premium | 200+ games; Xbox-published games join within one year of launch | Middle tier for a broader library without the stated day-one access of Ultimate or PC Game Pass. |
| Ultimate | 500+ games, day-one releases and extra benefits | Broadest listed combination of game access and benefits across console, PC and supported devices. |
| PC Game Pass | 300+ PC games, day-one titles and EA Play | Focused on PC play, with day-one titles and EA Play included. |
These are the counts and features on Xbox’s current plan page as of October 2026. Xbox warns that counts, features and availability vary over time, by region, plan and platform. Its December 2025 cloud guide described Ultimate as including 400+ games; the later current plan page lists 500+. Treat the current count as a snapshot, not a promise that a particular title will stay in the library.

What is changing for cloud gaming in November 2026?
Xbox announced on September 3, 2026 that monthly cloud gaming will be capped starting in November. The announced allowances are 15 hours for Ultimate, 10 for Premium and 5 for Essential, per month. Xbox said eligible subscribers at the time of the announcement had no such monthly limits and expected the change to affect 4% of subscribers. It also said extra hours would be sold through the Xbox Store; pricing and market details were still to be announced in that September notice.
Cloud access and an allowance are not the same as guaranteed availability of every game on every device. Xbox’s December 2025 guide said cloud gaming was available with Essential, Premium and Ultimate, and in 29 countries at that time. It also reported cloud gaming hours were up 45% year over year. Those are dated service figures, not guarantees of availability or usage in every market today.

What you need for streaming
Xbox’s cloud setup guide recommends an internet connection of at least 20 Mbps for stable streaming and says most games require a gamepad. It names official Xbox controllers as supported. Actual performance can still depend on the connection, device and location.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which plan fits your kind of gaming?
Choose based on what you will actually use, rather than library size alone. A console player who mainly needs online multiplayer may find Essential sufficient. Premium suits someone who wants a larger console library and can wait for Xbox-published games to arrive after launch. Players who want day-one releases and the broader bundle should compare Ultimate; PC players seeking PC games, day-one titles and EA Play should compare PC Game Pass.

- Library turnover: Game Pass titles are available only while your subscription is active and while each title remains in the library. Availability differs by region, plan and platform.
- Cloud use: Check that cloud gaming is offered in your market and account for the November 2026 monthly allowances if you stream regularly.
- Multiplayer and extras: If you need online console multiplayer, compare the plan’s listed benefits before subscribing. Do not assume benefits from an older plan name carry over unchanged.
Will your Game Pass price change?
A 2024 increase for new members in one market does not by itself tell you what your next renewal will cost. Microsoft’s terms say recurring billing is enabled by default and that charges may increase with at least 30 days’ notice. The amount and timing relevant to you depend on your market, plan and account notice.
- Check the plan and renewal amount shown for your Microsoft account, rather than relying on a price quoted for another country or for new members.
- Read Microsoft’s renewal or price-change notice and note when the new amount takes effect.
- If you do not want another recurring charge, review the subscription’s recurring-billing setting before the renewal date.
Xbox editorial director Joe Skrebels said in November 2024 that the company aimed to offer plans at a range of price points so players could choose the features that fit their needs and budget. The practical choice is still to compare the current benefits and account-specific renewal price—not to assume the old Standard name or a price from another market applies to you.
