Core, Standard and Ultimate are legacy Xbox Game Pass names. As of October 7, 2026, Xbox’s US comparison page lists Essential, Premium and Ultimate as its console-focused plans, plus PC Game Pass. Xbox has not published a complete one-to-one conversion table in the sources available here, so don’t assume an old Core or Standard subscription maps exactly to a current plan. The practical comparison is between the current plans and the features you’ll use.
What changed from Core and Standard?
Xbox’s current US plan selector uses Essential, Premium and Ultimate, not Core and Standard. Core and Standard were names used in 2025; a then-published Xbox Insider announcement discussed a preview for subscribers, but it does not establish a full historical conversion chart or prove that preview features became standard benefits. If you are renewing an older subscription, check the plan name and inclusions shown in your Microsoft account rather than relying on the old label. Xbox’s current plan comparison is the best place to confirm what is offered now.
How the current Game Pass plans compare
Xbox describes its plans through categories such as game-library access, cloud gaming, online console multiplayer, benefits and discounts. Ultimate’s US listing specifically identifies EA Play, Fortnite Crew and Ubisoft+ Classics. The official comparison page’s retrieved text does not expose every plan’s complete row-by-row allocation, so a detailed matrix of which current tier includes each feature cannot be reliably reproduced here. Check the live selector for the exact games and benefits available to your account and region.
| Plan | What the current sources establish | US price observed |
|---|---|---|
| Essential | Xbox lists it as a current plan and announced a monthly cloud-gaming allowance scheduled to begin in November 2026. The retrieved official comparison text does not establish every included benefit. | Not stated in the retrieved official US page text; do not infer a price from another market or an older listing. |
| Premium | Xbox lists it as a current plan and announced a monthly cloud-gaming allowance scheduled to begin in November 2026. Confirm the live comparison for the full current feature list. | $14.99/month on Microsoft’s US store listing accessed October 7, 2026. |
| Ultimate | Xbox lists it as a current plan. Its US store listing identifies EA Play, Fortnite Crew and Ubisoft+ Classics, alongside Game Pass access. Confirm the live comparison for other current inclusions. | $22.99/month on Microsoft’s US store listing accessed October 7, 2026. |
| PC Game Pass | Shown separately in Xbox’s current plan selector; it is not one of the three console-plan labels above. | Not stated in the retrieved official US page text. |
Prices are market-sensitive. The cited amounts are US monthly store listings accessed October 7, 2026, not guaranteed prices elsewhere or at a later date. Microsoft says subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled, charges may change with notice, and promotional offers can be limited to eligible subscribers or regions and may renew at the regular price after the offer ends. See the US Ultimate listing and plan comparison for current terms.

Cloud gaming: monthly limits are scheduled for November 2026
On September 3, 2026, Team Xbox announced that included cloud gaming would change beginning in November. The announced monthly allowances are:
- Ultimate: 15 hours per month.
- Premium: 10 hours per month.
- Essential: 5 hours per month.
These are announced future limits as of October 7, 2026, not limits already in effect on that date. Xbox said additional-hour pricing and market availability details would be shared before the change. In its announcement, Xbox said subscribers could stream without these monthly hour limits at that time. See Team Xbox’s September 3, 2026 cloud-gaming announcement for updates.

Which plan should you choose?
Start with the benefit that would make the subscription worthwhile to you, then verify that it is included in the current plan in your market. Since the exact tier-by-tier feature allocation can change, use these as decision checks rather than assumptions about old Core or Standard labels:
- You mainly want a lower-cost way to play online on console: Check the live plan comparison for online console multiplayer and compare the local recurring price. The retrieved US information does not establish Essential’s price.
- You want more catalog access: Compare the current library listings and confirm that the games you intend to play are available for your plan and platform. Catalog contents can change.
- You want named third-party memberships or game-specific benefits: Ultimate’s US listing calls out EA Play, Fortnite Crew and Ubisoft+ Classics. Check the listing and benefit terms before subscribing to confirm eligibility and what each benefit includes.
- You expect to stream frequently: Consider the announced November cloud-hour allowance for your tier, but check for updated availability and any additional-hour pricing before relying on it.
- You primarily play on Windows PC: Compare PC Game Pass as a separate plan rather than treating it as a renamed console tier.
Where Game Pass works—and what can vary
Xbox’s comparison page lists Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles, Windows PCs and handhelds among the devices for downloads or streaming, and lists supported Apple and Android phones and tablets, Samsung and LG smart TVs, Amazon Fire TVs, Meta VR headsets and a web browser at xbox.com/play for streaming. These are not universal guarantees: cloud play requires a supported device and region, while game and feature availability can vary by time, region, plan and platform. Check the live Xbox comparison page before subscribing for a specific game or device.
