Microsoft does not publish a current universal maximum for the storage slider in Xbox Dev Home. A community-reported path to it is Dev Home menu → Manage dev storage, but the allocation may not be the same storage area used by an app that reports a LocalState or LocalCache error. Identify what is full before changing the slider.
What the Developer Mode storage limit is—and isn’t
There is no verified public Microsoft specification for the current maximum of the retail-console Manage dev storage slider. Do not treat numbers repeated in community posts as an official limit. Microsoft’s public Developer Mode FAQ describes Dev Home and switching modes, but does not document this slider or its limits.
Xbox storage is not a single interchangeable pool. Microsoft’s GDK documentation on local storage describes several categories for Xbox One titles: temporary local storage, installed game data, developer scratch storage, and Persistent Local Storage. These are developer-facing concepts; they do not establish how much space the retail Dev Home slider can allocate or guarantee that the slider changes every app’s writable space.
How to find and adjust the reported Dev Home control
The following is a community-reported interface path, not a procedure documented by Microsoft. Menu labels may differ by console software version.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Confirm the console is in Developer Mode. Press the controller’s Home button. Microsoft’s FAQ says Dev Home appears in Developer Mode; the retail home experience indicates Retail Mode.
- Open Dev Home’s menu. Look for Manage dev storage. A community post reports that this menu item opens a slider for the development-storage allocation: community report about the control.
- Check what is actually full before moving the slider. Note the app, path, or volume named in the warning. The slider’s effect on app-specific writable data is not established in Microsoft’s public documentation.
- Make the adjustment and follow the console’s prompts. Do not assume the change is lossless: the reviewed sources do not establish whether resizing preserves installed apps and data across console and software versions.
If you want to return to Retail Mode, Microsoft says to open Dev Home and select Leave developer mode. See the Microsoft Developer Mode FAQ.
Match the warning to the storage area
Temporary local storage
Microsoft’s GDK documentation describes 2 GB of dedicated storage for temporary local storage for a title. The contents may be deleted after the title ends. This is a title-development storage figure, not the maximum for the retail Dev Home allocation.

Developer scratch storage and development files
The GDK identifies developer scratch storage as development-only. That description does not specify the retail Dev Home slider’s current limit. If the console warns that development files are full, the reported slider may be relevant, but there is no published Microsoft maximum to compare against.
App LocalState or LocalCache
An individual community report says increasing its development-files allocation did not increase capacity in an app’s LocalState or LocalCache. That is a troubleshooting clue, not a universal diagnosis: it does not establish behavior for every app, console, or OS version. Check the exact app and storage path shown by the error rather than assuming the slider will fix it. The report is available in this community discussion.

Game saves

What to check if the warning remains
- Record the exact wording of the warning and the app, path, or volume it identifies.
- Separate a development-files allocation warning from an app-specific LocalState or LocalCache error.
- Note the console model and software version. The available sources do not establish slider limits by model or OS version.
- If removing content is an option, confirm what it is before deleting it; the available documentation does not promise data preservation when the allocation is resized.
- Do not assume an external drive will increase the Dev Home allocation. That behavior is not established by the cited documentation.
