Xbox Cloud Gaming will no longer be supported through the Xbox app on 2020 Samsung Smart TVs starting November 3, 2026, according to an email from Microsoft quoted by Windows Central. This is a cutoff for that TV generation—not an end to Xbox Cloud Gaming. The report says users can continue streaming on 2021-and-later Samsung TVs and on PCs, phones, tablets, and Xbox consoles, subject to device and regional availability.
Which Samsung TVs lose Xbox app support?
The reported cutoff applies to 2020 Samsung Smart TVs using the Xbox app. Microsoft’s email, as quoted by Windows Central in a report updated October 2, 2026, says support ends November 3, 2026.
To check your set’s model, open Settings → Support → About This TV and compare the model information with Samsung’s published compatibility details. Samsung’s US gaming page lists specific 2020 and 2021 TV models, rather than guaranteeing support for every television from those years.

Why is support ending?
The reason given in the email quoted by Windows Central is that future technology updates powering Xbox Cloud Gaming are no longer compatible with the operating-system version available on the affected models. Microsoft’s quoted explanation does not identify a specific technical component, so claims about a particular browser engine or other underlying cause should not be treated as confirmed.

Windows Central reports the email’s wording as: “Starting 3 November, the XBOX app will no longer be supported on 2020 Samsung Smart TVs as updates to the technology that powers XBOX Cloud Gaming are no longer compatible with the operating system version available on these models.”
Does this mean Xbox Cloud Gaming is shutting down?
No. The notice describes an app-support change for a particular TV generation, not a shutdown of Xbox Cloud Gaming. Windows Central says Microsoft named 2021-and-later Samsung TVs, PCs, smartphones, tablets, and Xbox consoles as devices users can use to continue streaming. Availability still depends on the exact device, region, and service support.

What can affected TV owners do?
Check the exact TV model and region
Use the TV’s About This TV screen to identify its model, then check Samsung’s compatibility information for your country. Samsung’s Canada Gaming Hub page describes support on select models since 2022 and select 2021 models via software update, and cautions that service availability varies by country and model. Those manufacturer pages provide compatibility context; they do not independently confirm Microsoft’s reported cutoff for 2020 sets.
Choose another device if you want to keep streaming
The alternatives named in the reported notice include eligible newer Samsung TVs, PCs, smartphones, tablets, and Xbox consoles. A console is one option, not a requirement: consider a device you already own and check that the Xbox app or cloud service is available for its model and your region before making a purchase.

Check the requirements for TV streaming
For supported Samsung TVs, Samsung’s US Xbox app listing says cloud gaming requires a Microsoft account with an Xbox profile, a supported Bluetooth controller, internet access, and a supported region and TV. Game catalog, server availability, and wait times can vary. The listing shows app version 4.70.698 updated May 27, 2026; that update date does not guarantee continued support on every TV generation.

No such fix is identified in Microsoft’s reported notice. Samsung lists compatible Bluetooth and USB controllers for its TV game-streaming setup, but changing controllers or TV settings should not be assumed to restore Xbox app support on a 2020 set after the cutoff.
