Choose the Woojer Vest 4 for gaming, VR, or other upright use; choose the Woojer MAT for lying-down relaxation sessions. Both convert compatible audio into tactile sensations, but neither choice is a universal winner—and the vest should not be mistaken for a device that automatically reads game events or delivers precise positional cues.
What separates the MAT from a haptic vest?
The main difference is how you use each product. Woojer’s Vest 4 is worn around the torso, so it suits gaming, VR, watching media, or moving around. The MAT is a foldable, full-body surface intended for use while lying on a bed, sofa, or another soft surface. Both have six haptic zones, but those zones are arranged for different kinds of contact: around the torso in the vest and across the mat.

Is the MAT or a vest better for relaxation?
Choose the MAT for lying-down sessions
The MAT’s form factor is the more natural fit if your routine involves lying down for meditation, winding down, or a short relaxation session. Woojer markets it for wellness use, and its design avoids wearing a garment during the session. It is not a conventional mattress topper: it is 38 mm thick, measures 190 × 76 cm, and Woojer says it should be placed on a soft, yielding surface rather than directly on a bare hard floor. It folds for storage, but while in use it occupies a bed, sofa, or similar space.

Choose a vest if you want to stay upright
A vest can be used while sitting, standing, or moving, so it may suit someone who wants tactile audio without lying on a surface. Woojer also lists wellness and relaxation uses for Vest 4. However, the available evidence does not establish that the vest reliably improves relaxation in ordinary consumer use, and wearing it may be less comfortable for some people than using a mat.
There is a practical caveat for shared beds. In a short hands-on review, T3 reviewer Lucy Miller described personally feeling calmer and more relaxed with the MAT and continued using it for meditation, relaxation, and brief recovery sessions. She also found it expensive and said it was not a true mattress topper, particularly for a shared bed. That is one reviewer’s subjective experience, not clinical evidence or a guaranteed result. Which is better for gaming and VR?
For gaming and VR, the Vest 4 is the closer fit because it is worn on your torso and does not require you to lie on a particular surface. Woojer says it works with compatible phones, computers, consoles, and VR systems. It lists Bluetooth 5.0, USB-C digital audio, and a 3.5 mm audio input, plus independent audio and haptic controls and a haptic range of 1–250 Hz. Connection behavior can differ by device and platform, so confirm that your specific setup supports the connection method you intend to use.
Audio-reactive does not necessarily mean game-aware
Both devices translate compatible audio into tactile sensation. Woojer says special game integration is not required for compatible audio sources, but audio-reactive haptics should not be confused with game-specific telemetry. Without evidence for a particular game and connection method, do not assume the vest knows where an event occurred in the game or provides precise directional feedback. The experience depends on the audio it receives and how that source is connected.

What setup does the MAT require?
The standard MAT uses an included 100 W USB-C power adapter. Woojer lists Bluetooth 5.0, USB-C digital audio, and 3.5 mm as audio connection options. The optional power bank is sold separately; Woojer describes it as offering up to eight hours. Plan for both a suitable soft surface and access to the MAT’s power arrangement when deciding where to use it.
Woojer’s MAT FAQ advises against use by people with a pacemaker, another electronic or mechanical device implanted or attached to support the body, or a defibrillator. It also advises consulting a physician for certain health concerns and stopping use if pain, dizziness, or an unusual sensation occurs. Follow the current manual for your model and seek medical advice when the manufacturer recommends it.

What does the evidence say about relaxation or health benefits?
Woojer describes the MAT as a consumer wellness product, not a medical device, and says it is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any condition. Its marketing for relaxation and recovery is not proof of a clinical benefit. No independent controlled trial establishing that the consumer MAT or Vest 4 reliably improves relaxation, sleep, pain, or recovery in ordinary consumer use is established here. That evidence gap is not proof that no one will find the sensation useful; it means outcomes should not be promised.

- For a 2025 randomized study in the Journal of Anxiety Disorders, Woojer reports 128 participants across four groups in a breath-focused mindfulness protocol. Its summary says only the group receiving vibration synchronized to breathing showed steadier breathing across visits. That is a specific measured outcome in that protocol, not proof that the MAT treats anxiety or improves sleep.
- Woojer summarizes a 2022 BMJ Open scoping review covering 20 adult pain studies. It describes the studies as heterogeneous and says larger controlled trials were needed; this does not establish that the MAT relieves pain.
- Woojer also describes a 2026 BMJ Open immersive training simulation where the haptic contribution received a median rating of 7 out of 7 (IQR 6–7). That rating concerns a training simulation, not relaxation efficacy or a general product satisfaction score.
