To get notified when an unreleased PC game launches, add it to the wishlist on the storefront that will sell it, then enable that store’s wishlist or release alerts. A Steam wishlist will not notify you about a game sold only through the Epic Games Store, and the reverse is also true. You do not need to buy or install the game; you do need to use the account that should receive alerts and check its email and notification settings.
Here’s what each major PC storefront documents, how to add an upcoming game, and what to check if an alert never arrives. Storefront labels and settings can change; the details below reflect information current in November 2026.

Where should I wishlist an unreleased PC game?
Add the game to the storefront where you expect to buy it. Each store’s wishlist is tied to that store account and its own notification system, so a wishlist on one storefront does not cover a listing on another.

For Steam, the developer must publish a publicly visible store page before players can wishlist the title. Epic’s documented alert is tied to an offer becoming available to purchase or pre-purchase. Microsoft says a product can be wishlisted once it has a publicly visible Microsoft Store configuration. GOG’s documented player instructions explain how to add a game and receive discount alerts; they do not establish a Steam-style launch-day email.

- Game has a Steam page: add it under Store > Wishlist in the Steam account you want to use.
- Game is sold through Epic: add it to the Epic wishlist and subscribe to wishlist email notifications.
- It is a Microsoft Store or Xbox title: wishlist it from the product page in the Microsoft Store or Xbox app while signed in to the right Microsoft account.
- It is listed on GOG: add it to the GOG wishlist and enable Wishlist alerts if you want the documented promotion emails.
If a game is not publicly listed on its eventual store, there is not yet a storefront wishlist entry to add. Following the developer on social media may keep you informed, but it does not enroll you in the store’s wishlist alerts.
How do I add an unreleased game to my Steam wishlist?
Sign in to Steam, open the game’s full store page, and select Add to your Wishlist. The game should then appear under Store > Wishlist in the desktop client or on the Steam Store website.
- Sign in to the Steam account that should receive alerts. Check the account name before adding the title; wishlists belong to individual accounts.
- Open the game’s store page. Search for the title or open its direct Steam store page if you have the link. Use the full page rather than a search preview.
- Select Add to your Wishlist. On the store page, the control is on the left side. After adding the game, the page indicates that it is already on your list.
- Verify the entry. Open Store > Wishlist and confirm the correct title is there.
- Check notification preferences. A wishlist entry alone does not confirm that email or phone alerts are enabled; review the account settings described below.
The game does not need to be installed, purchased, or followed in Steam Community for wishlist alerts. If you cannot find the wishlist control, check that you are signed in and on the full store page. Other possibilities include being on a search preview, a regional restriction, or the absence of a normal public store page.

How does Steam notify wishlisters at launch?
Steam’s documented release alerts cover both Early Access and full release. If the game is still on your wishlist when it launches, Valve says eligible users receive an email and/or mobile push notification that it is available.
The wishlist entry is the key; there is no separate per-game “notify me on this date” control. If a game first launches in Early Access and later transitions to full release, Valve documents another email to people who still have the game on their wishlist at that time. That second email is subject to the per-game email cooldown described below.

Steam also supports a separate notification for an associated free demo. The developer can notify wishlisters once when the demo becomes available, using the demo’s app page within the two weeks after release. This is not the same trigger as the game’s Early Access or full release. A July 22, 2026 Neowin report also described Steam’s demo highlighting and a separate notification when a demo appears after a player has already wishlisted the game.
Turn on Steam email alerts
- In Steam, open the menu under your name in the upper-right corner and choose Account details.
- Select Manage Email Preferences.
- For sale notifications, enable A discount is applied to an item on my wishlist. Make sure Steam store and wishlist communications are not globally opted out.
- Verify the email address on the account. Valve says only customers with a verified Steam email address receive notifications.
The email settings are also available at store.steampowered.com/account/emailoptout when signed in. Labels may move as the interface changes, so use Account details as the starting point if that path looks different.

For mobile push, install the Steam mobile app, sign in to the same account as your wishlist, and allow notifications in your phone’s operating-system settings. For desktop pop-ups, check Steam client > Settings > Notifications for the wishlist options shown in your version of the client.
Steam’s 2026 wishlist interface also introduced category and filter controls, and some guides describe notification controls from the Wishlist page, including category filters and demo notices where those controls are available. Treat categories as an organizing tool rather than a replacement for the account-level release and email settings.
Why did my Steam launch or sale notification not arrive?
First check that the game is still on the wishlist for the account you use, then verify the email and notification settings. A missing email can also be caused by Steam’s per-game cooldown, while sale alerts have additional thresholds that do not apply to the basic release trigger.

- Confirm the wishlist entry and account. Open Store > Wishlist and make sure the game appears under the account you expected.
- Verify the email address and preferences. In Account details > Manage Email Preferences, confirm that the address is verified and wishlist communications are allowed.
- Check delivery folders and timing. Look in spam and promotions folders. Valve says sale emails are generally sent within a few hours, but can take longer during high-volume periods; it stops trying if an email is held up for more than a week. Emails may also bundle multiple games.
- Check whether another notification was sent recently. Valve’s Steamworks documentation says an app ID that has had an email notification in the previous two weeks is on cooldown. All forms of email about that app ID count, and the period may be extended during high-traffic periods such as seasonal sales. An earlier demo or launch-week email can therefore affect another email for the same game.
- For mobile push, check the app and phone settings. Make sure the Steam app is signed in to the same account and that the phone allows its notifications.
- For sale alerts, check the sale rules below. A visible discount does not automatically qualify.
If an alert is missing, the Wishlist page itself is a useful backup: check it on or around the launch date rather than relying on a single email. A release-date change, trailer update, price increase, or news post does not by itself trigger a Steam wishlist email.
Steam sale alerts have three main conditions
Steam’s automatic wishlist sale notification is not a custom price tracker. According to Valve’s 2026 Steamworks documentation, all of these conditions must be met:
- At least 20% off: a smaller discount does not meet the documented threshold.
- More than eight hours: the sale must last longer than eight hours.
- The lowest-priced package is discounted: discounting only a Deluxe or other higher-priced edition does not qualify if the lowest-priced package is not included.
Valve does not wait for a personal target such as 60% off. A qualifying 20% discount can trigger an alert even if you were hoping for a larger cut. A BotDrop player guide dated October 17, 2026, citing Steamworks Free to Keep, says Steam does not send wishlist notifications for Free to Keep promotions.
How do I get Epic Games Store wishlist emails?
Add the game to your Epic wishlist and switch on Receive email notifications about my wishlist. Epic documents alerts when a wishlisted offer goes on sale or becomes available to purchase or pre-purchase, the latter being the launch-equivalent alert for an unreleased game.
- Sign in to the Epic Games Store website or Epic Games Launcher.
- Add the game. In the storefront, hover over the game and choose Add to Wishlist, or open its detail page and select Wishlist.
- Open Wishlist. Select Wishlist near the Cart on the website, or choose it from the Epic Games Launcher. In Epic Games Launcher Preview, use the Store tab to access the wishlist.
- Subscribe to wishlist emails. Turn on Receive email notifications about my wishlist.
- Check account email preferences if needed. Epic’s account path is Username > Account > Email Preferences; check the Epic Games Store and Epic Games Store Wishlist Alerts options.
Epic’s developer documentation describes three channels for automated alerts: email if you subscribed, a pop-up when you sign in to the Epic Games Store, and a desktop notification on Windows or macOS when signed in to the Epic Games Launcher. If an email does not arrive, open the Wishlist page and confirm that the game remains listed and that the subscription is active.

How do I wishlist a PC game in the Microsoft Store or Xbox app?
Use the Microsoft account that should receive alerts, then add the title from its product page in the Microsoft Store or Xbox app. Microsoft documents notifications when a wishlisted product changes from pre-order to released, as well as for sales, Game Pass inclusion, and Free Play Days.
Microsoft’s June 17, 2026 documentation says a product must have a publicly visible configuration in the Microsoft Store before customers can wishlist it. Its documented notification channels include email and system notifications on Xbox consoles, the Xbox app on PC, and the Xbox mobile app. For a Microsoft Store PC or Xbox Play Anywhere title, look for the wishlist option on the product page while signed in to the intended Microsoft account, then leave wishlist release and sale notifications enabled in that account’s notification preferences.
The documented release trigger is specifically a move from pre-order to released. A public product page that is not yet purchasable may therefore be wishlisted, but Microsoft’s cited explanation does not establish a general alert for every change in a game’s announcement or release date. Microsoft also says sale alerts may consolidate multiple wishlisted products into one email or toast.

GOG’s official player instructions explain wishlist alerts for games that go on promotion; they do not promise a Steam-style email when an unreleased title launches. Wishlist the game there if GOG is where you want to buy it, but do not rely on a GOG launch-day alert based on those instructions.

- Confirm it is listed. On gog.com, hover over your profile name and choose Wishlist. GOG sale pages also have a From your wishlist tab.
- Enable promotion emails. Open Profile > Orders & settings > Subscriptions and check Wishlist alerts.
GOG’s instructions say these emails arrive when wishlist games go on promotion. For a launch alert, use the game’s actual sales storefront and any launch-notification method it documents; GOG’s cited player guidance is not enough to confirm an equivalent release email.

What if the game is not listed or the store alert is unreliable?
A store wishlist can only notify you about a listing it recognizes, and each storefront’s alert follows its documented triggers. If the store page is missing, or if you want a backup, check the storefront’s own wishlist page and follow the developer’s official news channel.
- No store page yet: there is nothing to add until the storefront publishes a public listing. For Steam, Valve specifically recommends a public Coming Soon page so interested players can wishlist the game before release.
- The game appears on multiple stores: wishlist each version you would consider buying. A single-store alert does not cover another store’s exclusive listing.
- You want a backup: bookmark the store wishlist page and check it around the announced release. A developer’s official news channel can provide another source of announcements, but does not replace the store’s alerts.
- You are using a giveaway alert service: services focused on free-game drops are not a substitute for an unreleased-game wishlist. Steam’s Personal Calendar, available as a full store feature as of October 23, 2026, is a personalized upcoming/recent list, not the launch-email system.
How should I choose notification channels?
Email is useful when you want an alert without keeping a store app open; mobile push and desktop or system notifications can be more visible, but require the relevant app and operating-system permissions. For the best chance of seeing a launch announcement, enable the channels that matter to you and verify the account that owns the wishlist.

These systems do not all mean the same thing by “launch alert.” Steam explicitly documents release emails for Early Access and full release; Epic describes the offer becoming purchasable or available for pre-purchase; Microsoft documents a pre-order-to-released transition; and GOG’s player instructions focus on promotions. Use the wording and triggers for the store where the particular game is listed, rather than assuming that every wishlist works like Steam’s.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Steam require a minimum number of wishlists before it notifies players?
No. Valve’s Steamworks FAQ says there is no minimum wishlist count before Steam will show a game. That does not change the individual player’s need to keep the game on their own wishlist and enable the relevant account alerts.
Does Steam’s Personal Calendar send a launch email?
No. Steam’s Personal Calendar is a personalized view of upcoming and recent releases, not the wishlist email or push-notification system. Use the store wishlist and account notification settings for those alerts.
Will Steam notify me when a game is temporarily free to keep?
A BotDrop guide dated October 17, 2026, citing Steamworks Free to Keep, says Steam does not send wishlist notifications for Free to Keep promotions. That is different from an ordinary qualifying discount, which follows Steam’s sale-alert rules.
Can I share a Steam wishlist category or filtered list?
Steam’s 2026 wishlist update added shareable category or filtered wishlist links, along with custom categories and search filters. Those links help organize or share a list; they do not change which account receives a launch alert.
