The Winix C710 is a capable particle-focused air purifier for a medium-sized room, with Wi-Fi, sensor-driven Auto mode, and a replaceable all-in-one filter. Its main trade-off is speed versus noise: it cleans strongly at maximum, but is much quieter-speed performance is more suitable for a smaller room. Its thin activated-carbon layer is intended to reduce odors, not a strong reason to buy it for persistent odors or gases.
What the Winix C710 is—and who it suits
The C710 is a room air cleaner with a washable fine-mesh pre-filter, a replaceable Filter Z set, Wi-Fi, and automatic operation based on an air-quality sensor. It makes the most sense if particle removal, convenient controls, and a clear replacement-filter path matter more than quiet high-speed operation or substantial odor treatment.
ENERGY STAR’s product record says the C710 is identical in performance to the C610, with changes to the inlet, exhaust design, and control panel. That is ENERGY STAR’s description, not an independent teardown. It does not establish a difference in price, noise, bundle contents, or ownership experience. ENERGY STAR product record.
How much area can it clean?
Room-size figures depend on the cleaning rate and the air-change assumption behind them. ENERGY STAR lists a 384-square-foot estimate based on smoke CADR and a convention of one room air exchange per hour. It is a standardized estimate, not a guarantee for every ceiling height, pollutant, or desired cleaning rate.

| Measure | Value | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| ENERGY STAR smoke CADR | 248 cfm | Product database value used for its room-size estimate. |
| ENERGY STAR dust CADR | 252 cfm | Product database value. |
| ENERGY STAR pollen CADR | 262 cfm | Product database value. |
| ENERGY STAR PM2.5 CADR | 250 cfm | Product database value. |
| ENERGY STAR room estimate | 384 sq ft | Uses its one-air-change-per-hour convention. |
| RTINGS measured PM1.0 CADR, maximum fan | 247 CFM | RTINGS’ test, with the ionizer off. |
| RTINGS measured CADR at a setting capped at 45 dBA | 93 CFM | RTINGS’ quieter-speed threshold test, with the ionizer off. |
| RTINGS recommended room area, maximum fan | 386 sq ft | RTINGS’ guidance based on its test method. |
| RTINGS recommended room area, setting capped at 45 dBA | 145 sq ft | RTINGS’ guidance at its quieter-speed threshold. |
These room figures are not interchangeable: ENERGY STAR and RTINGS use their respective methods, and RTINGS’ recommendations show why a room’s area alone can be misleading. If you plan to run the purifier quietly, size it against the slower rate rather than assuming the maximum-speed room figure will apply. The CADR and noise measurements are from RTINGS’ C710 review, dated September 22, 2026.
How loud is the C710?
RTINGS measured 31.4 dBA at the lowest speed and 64.7 dBA at maximum. The lowest setting and Sleep mode were characterized as quiet for overnight use in a smaller room; maximum speed can be disruptive. These are RTINGS’ measurements, not a guarantee of how loud the unit will seem in every room.

- 𝐀𝐢𝐫 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫: Visual indicator displays real-time air quality in the room with LED lights
The practical choice is between a much higher cleaning rate with more noise and a quieter setting that covers less area. If you need both substantial particle cleaning and low noise across a large room, the test figures suggest the C710 may require a compromise.
Filtration, odors, and PlasmaWave
The C710’s filter system includes a fine-mesh pre-filter, a particle filter, and activated carbon. The labels used for the particle filter vary by source: ENERGY STAR categorizes the product as “HEPA-Type,” while Winix markets Filter Z as True HEPA and Costco’s listing calls the appliance True HEPA. Those are source-specific descriptions; ENERGY STAR’s database entry is not a certification that the filter meets a particular HEPA standard. ENERGY STAR explains that products labeled “HEPA-Type,” rather than HEPA or True HEPA, have not demonstrated that they meet the HEPA standard. See the ENERGY STAR listing, Winix Filter Z page, and Costco listing.

RTINGS describes the activated-carbon layer as a thin sheet, unlike the larger masses of carbon found in some purifiers. The carbon is intended to reduce odors, but its presence alone does not establish strong performance against persistent smells, gases, or volatile organic compounds. If those are your main concern, the C710’s particle CADR figures do not answer the question; look for evidence about carbon quantity and odor performance.
RTINGS describes PlasmaWave as an ionizer-style feature that can be switched off independently. It says its particle testing was performed with the ionizer off. ENERGY STAR’s record lists ozone emissions of 1.0 ppb. Treat that as a database figure, not a general medical-safety conclusion; readers who prefer not to use the ionizer can disable it as RTINGS describes.

Which replacement filter fits?
Winix identifies Filter Z, part number 1712-0121-00, as compatible with the C710. Winix describes it as an all-in-one, one-year replacement set. Its general recommendation is to replace True HEPA filters about every 12 months, while noting that actual life depends on use and air conditions. The replacement indicator illuminates when a filter needs attention. Check the Filter Z product page for current product details.

What can be cleaned?
Winix describes the fine-mesh pre-filter as washable and permanent with proper care. RTINGS advises vacuuming debris from the C710’s pre-filter regularly but does not give a C710-specific interval. Its reference to cleaning a similar C610 pre-filter every 14 days is a C610 manual reference, not a C710 instruction. Follow the C710 manual for its cleaning procedure rather than treating that interval as a model-specific rule. Winix’s general filter guidance is on its FAQ page.
What to check before buying
- Room and fan speed: Match your room to the cleaning rate you are willing to run, not just the maximum-speed area estimate.
- Noise: RTINGS’ maximum-speed measurement is substantially louder than its lowest-speed result.
- Odor needs: The carbon layer is thin; do not assume it will handle strong or persistent odors or gases.
- Replacement costs: Confirm the current cost and availability of genuine Filter Z, part 1712-0121-00, before purchase.
- Retailer bundle: Costco’s listing described two all-in-one filters and up to two years of filtration, but showed the item unavailable when that page was captured. Bundle contents and stock can change, so verify the live listing.
- Energy database figures: ENERGY STAR lists annual energy use of 235 kWh and an integrated energy factor of 6.2 cfm/W. These are product-record values, not a prediction of your bill; actual consumption depends on operating speed and use.
For a comparison with another purifier, use the same room-size and air-change assumptions, compare measured cleaning at the noise level you expect to use, and check replacement-filter type, interval, and current cost. The C710’s ENERGY STAR record also lists 248 cfm smoke CADR and a 384-square-foot estimate under its stated convention.
