Neither Windows 11 taskbar alignment is proven to be faster or more productive for everyone. Keep the default centered icons if they suit your habits; choose left alignment if it feels more familiar or fits your workflow better. The setting changes icon alignment, not the taskbar’s position: it remains at the bottom of the screen.
What changes between center and left alignment?
Windows 11 centers taskbar icons by default. Left alignment places them on the left side instead. Microsoft describes how to change the setting, but its cited guidance does not establish that either arrangement is universally faster, more productive, or more accessible.

These are practical preference-based considerations, not measured performance findings. Changing alignment does not move the taskbar to the top or side of the screen. Microsoft’s Windows taskbar guidance describes the default, available choices, and setting.
Which alignment should you use?
Use whichever arrangement makes the taskbar easiest for you to scan and use. If centered icons feel comfortable, there is no need to change the default. If left alignment better matches the layout you expect, switch to it. Treat this as a personal layout choice rather than a performance tweak.

Accessibility and focus needs also vary by person. Microsoft discusses alignment alongside controls for managing taskbar items and tray icons, and for automatically hiding the taskbar to reduce clutter or distractions. How to change taskbar alignment
- Right-click an empty area of the taskbar and select Taskbar settings.
- Expand Taskbar behaviors.
- Under Taskbar alignment, choose Center or Left.
Microsoft’s taskbar overview covers taskbar components and navigation. The alignment control applies to taskbar icons; it is not a control for relocating the taskbar itself.
