Before you connect: make sure the helper is trusted
Quick Assist lets a helper see the recipient’s screen and, if the recipient separately approves it, control the PC. Microsoft warns: “Only allow a Helper to connect to your device if you initiated the interaction by contacting Microsoft Support directly.” Do not treat an unexpected call, pop-up, or message as proof that someone represents Microsoft. If you want help from Microsoft, contact support yourself through a channel you trust. For help from a friend or family member, confirm who they are and agree to the session before sharing the code. The code and approval prompts do not replace that decision.

How the Quick Assist connection works
The helper starts the session and shares a six-digit code. The person receiving help enters that code and allows the connection and screen sharing. If the helper needs to operate the PC, they must request control, and the recipient can approve or decline. The recipient can cancel control or leave the session.

How to help someone with Quick Assist
- Open Quick Assist on the helper’s PC. If it is not installed, search for Quick Assist in Microsoft Store and install it.
- Select Help someone. Share the six-digit code shown by the app with the person you are helping. Send it only to the person you have agreed to help.
- Wait for the recipient to enter the code and approve the connection. They also need to allow screen sharing before you can see their screen.
- Use the available session tools as needed. Microsoft lists a laser pointer, annotations, and chat.
- Request control only if the repair requires it. Select Request control and wait for the recipient to approve. They can decline or later select Cancel control.
- End the session when the work is finished. Select Leave.
How to receive help on your PC
- Open Quick Assist on the PC that needs help.
- In Code from assistant, enter the six-digit code your helper provided, then select Submit.
- Check that you are connecting to the person you expect, then select Allow to connect and share your screen.
- If the helper requests full control, allow it only if it is necessary and you trust the helper. Select Cancel control to stop allowing full control.
- Select Leave when the session is over.
Install Quick Assist and resolve common setup problems
Quick Assist is distributed through Microsoft Store. Microsoft says moving it to the Store was intended to improve performance and security, including quicker generation of six-digit codes. Installation or launch may depend on the Windows version and device policies.
Microsoft Store is blocked on a work or school PC
An organization may prevent Store installation on managed devices. Microsoft directs users in that situation to contact their IT support person or administrator rather than bypassing the policy.

Quick Assist is slow to open the first time
Quick Assist requires WebView2. Microsoft says it should already be installed on Windows 11 or with Microsoft Edge; if it is missing, Quick Assist may install it the first time the app opens. That installation can take longer.
Store installation fails
Microsoft suggests trying these steps:
- Run
wsreset.exeto reset the Microsoft Store cache. - Check for Windows updates.
- Check the computer’s time and location settings.
Microsoft’s troubleshooting page also identifies older Windows releases where the Store version may not install: Windows 10 LTSC 2019 (version 1809), Windows 10 versions 20H2, 21H1, and 21H2, and Windows 11 version 21H1. This list is a specific older-version caveat, not a complete compatibility matrix for current Windows 11 releases.

Quick Assist is not the same as Windows Remote Assistance
Windows Remote Assistance is a separate Windows feature, not another name for Quick Assist. Quick Assist uses a six-digit code followed by the recipient’s connection and screen-sharing approvals. Remote Assistance must first be enabled in its settings and uses invitations and Easy Connect. Microsoft documents that separate workflow in Solve PC problems remotely with Remote Assistance. Which approach is available can depend on Windows version and device-management policy.
