Microsoft released Windows 11 KB5035853 on March 12, 2024, for versions 22H2 and 23H2. It brought them to builds 22621.3296 and 22631.3296, respectively, and included a fix for an update-installation failure that could stop at 96% with error 0x800F0922. This is a historical update, not the current security release; later builds have superseded it.
What changed in KB5035853?
Microsoft classified KB5035853 as a security update with quality improvements. Its main documented fix addressed a problem that could prevent February 2024 security and preview updates from installing. On affected devices, installation could stop responding at 96% and show error code 0x800F0922, followed by the message: “Something did not go as planned. No need to worry – undoing changes. Please keep your computer on.” Microsoft’s March 12, 2024 release notes describe the fix.
For Windows 11 version 22H2, the update also included improvements that had been part of KB5034848, released February 27, 2024. Microsoft said version 23H2 included all the improvements listed for 22H2 and documented no additional issues specific to that release.
