Microsoft released KB5034765 on February 13, 2024, as a security update for Windows 11 versions 22H2 and 23H2. It moved the Copilot icon to the right side of the taskbar’s system tray, but Microsoft’s release notes do not say the update fixes the Start menu. The update is historical, not the current Windows 11 update.
What KB5034765 changes
Microsoft’s headline change is that “The Copilot in Windows icon now appears on the right side of the system tray on the taskbar.” The release notes also say the “Show desktop” display at the taskbar’s rightmost corner is off by default. Microsoft cautions that new functionality can reach devices at different times through controlled feature rollout (CFR), so the interface change might not appear on every device immediately.
These are taskbar changes, not a documented change to the Start menu. If the Copilot icon is in a different position or the new behavior is not visible, rollout timing may explain the difference.
Does KB5034765 fix the Start menu?
No Start menu fix is listed in Microsoft’s KB5034765 release notes. The documented interface change is the Copilot taskbar icon’s placement and the default display of Show desktop. The available official documentation therefore does not support describing this update as a Start menu fix.

Microsoft lists no additional issues documented for version 23H2 in this release.
What to do if installation fails at 96%
Microsoft documented a specific installation problem in which some devices failed while installing KB5034765 at 96%, rolled back to the previous update, and displayed: “Something didn’t go as planned. No need to worry – undoing changes. Please keep your computer on”. Event Viewer might show error code 0x800F0922. Microsoft says the issue was addressed in KB5035853. This documented problem applies to the described failure; it does not establish that every installation failure has the same cause.

Microsoft links to the Update Catalog for standalone packages. The catalog lists x64 and ARM64 packages for Windows 11 versions 22H2 and 23H2. Choose the entry that matches your Windows version and system architecture, and verify that it applies to your device before installing it.
