No. In StatCounter’s August 2026 worldwide web-usage data, Windows 11 accounted for 68.6% of observed Windows-version use, compared with 30.14% for Windows 10. That makes Windows 11 more than twice as popular in this dataset. The figures describe observed usage, not a census of every Windows PC.
How Windows 10 and Windows 11 compare

StatCounter’s percentages are a measure of web-usage market share. They show which Windows versions appear in its observed traffic, not precisely how many computers are installed worldwide or how many people own a particular version.
What Windows 10’s end of support means
Microsoft ended Windows 10 support on October 14, 2025. A Windows 10 PC can still run, but Microsoft no longer provides it with software and feature updates, security updates and fixes, or technical support under standard support. The distinction matters: a computer may remain usable while its operating system is no longer receiving the regular protections and servicing available to a supported release.
Microsoft identified Windows 10, version 22H2, as the last feature update. Its lifecycle FAQ said that version would receive monthly updates through October 14, 2025, after which it would no longer be supported.

What to do if you still use Windows 10
Check whether the PC is eligible for Windows 11
Microsoft’s upgrade route is for eligible Windows 10 Home and Pro PCs, which can upgrade to the equivalent Windows 11 edition at no cost through Windows Update. Eligibility depends on the device meeting Microsoft’s minimum hardware requirements. Check your PC’s eligibility before planning an upgrade; if it is not eligible, do not assume that a free upgrade will be offered for that device.
Choose between upgrading and replacing the PC
If the computer is eligible and works for your needs, upgrading avoids the cost of buying another machine. If it does not meet Windows 11’s requirements, Microsoft directs users to consider purchasing a Windows 11 PC. That means the practical choice depends not only on which version is more popular, but also on the hardware you have and whether replacing it makes sense for you.

Consider Extended Security Updates as a bridge
Microsoft’s lifecycle FAQ says consumers and organizations can enroll in Extended Security Updates (ESU) to continue receiving critical and important security updates after Windows 10’s end of support. ESU is a way to bridge the transition, not a return to standard Windows 10 support: it does not change the operating system’s end-of-support status or make an ineligible PC eligible for Windows 11.

No. Popularity and support status answer different questions. StatCounter’s August 2026 data shows Windows 11 leading in observed usage; Microsoft’s lifecycle information establishes that Windows 10 standard support has ended. A large remaining Windows 10 share does not mean those PCs receive standard security servicing.

For someone deciding what to use next, the useful checks are whether the current PC meets Windows 11’s requirements, whether an upgrade or replacement is practical, and whether ESU is an appropriate temporary bridge. The adoption figures are useful context, but they do not determine what is safest or most suitable for an individual computer.
