The most noticeable change was a File Explorer usability improvement: you could drag a file between folder locations using the address bar’s breadcrumb segments. The release also included small taskbar, selection-visibility, stability, and notification updates. It was an experimental Insider build, not a confirmed update for a specific Windows release.
What changed in Windows 11 Canary build 26241?
Microsoft’s release announcement identifies the flight as Build 26241 for the Canary Channel, published June 19, 2024. The changes focused on everyday usability rather than a major new feature set.
Drag files between File Explorer breadcrumb locations
You could drag a file with a mouse between breadcrumb segments in File Explorer’s address bar. Breadcrumbs show the folders in the current path; dragging to a segment lets you move the file to that folder without navigating there first.
Make taskbar alerts and Explorer selections easier to see
Microsoft adjusted app-icon flashing on the taskbar to make it easier to notice. In File Explorer, a thin border around selected files and folders made the selection clearer. The flight also fixed a crash that affected some Insiders when they opened Home.

Change notification recommendations
Windows changed when it recommends turning off notifications: the system now waits for a longer period without engagement before making that suggestion.
Known issues in the June 19 flight
Microsoft said it was investigating two issues affecting Insiders: some Canary and Dev users were stuck on builds 26040 or 23620, and some users saw incorrect colors in Task Manager’s Performance section while using dark mode. These were investigation items in the release notes, not fixes announced for Build 26241.

Why some references call it build 26241.5000 or 24H2
Microsoft’s official post uses the base build number 26241. A contemporaneous ElevenForum thread records an installed OS build of 26241.5000 and identifies the version as 24H2. Those labels describe the installation reported there; Microsoft’s announcement itself does not call the flight “26241.5000 (24H2).” Microsoft had noted in May 2024 that Canary and Dev Insiders were already using 24H2-based builds with higher build numbers than Release Preview, but that does not make Canary builds a promise of a matching public release.
What Canary means for installing this build
Microsoft cautioned that Canary builds are not matched to a specific Windows release. Features can change, be removed, or never ship outside the Insider program, and some features are rolled out gradually. The company’s June 19 reminder put it plainly: “The builds we release to the Canary Channel should not be seen as matched to any specific release of Windows and features and experiences included in these builds may never get released as we try out different concepts and get feedback.”

Leaving Canary also has a significant practical cost: Microsoft says you must perform a clean installation of Windows 11 to move off the channel. Switching directly to a channel receiving lower build numbers is not supported. If you rely on your PC for work or need a supported, predictable Windows installation, that makes this experimental flight a poor choice for a primary device. Back up important files before any clean installation, which removes the existing Windows installation and can erase data.

For most people, no. The breadcrumb drag-and-drop behavior and visibility tweaks are modest improvements, while Canary is intended for early experimentation and carries the risks Microsoft describes. It is most appropriate for users who deliberately test pre-release Windows builds and can accept bugs, changing features, and a clean install if they later leave Canary.
