Windows 11 24H2 issues are tied to specific updates, drivers, devices, or applications—not to every PC running 24H2. Microsoft has documented an Intel Smart Sound Technology (SST) driver incompatibility linked to blue screens, a gaming incident associated with RGB-related components that it marked resolved, and several other device- and app-specific problems. Check the exact symptom and hardware or driver involved, then use Microsoft’s live 24H2 status page for the latest status.
Which Windows 11 24H2 problems has Microsoft documented?
Microsoft tracks separate incidents with their own affected configurations and status. The table below summarizes the cases covered here; a status can change, so consult the linked Microsoft entries before troubleshooting.
| Issue | Who or what was affected | Reported symptom | Microsoft’s documented status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Intel Smart Sound Technology (SST) | Devices with an 11th Gen Intel Core processor and SST driver 10.29.0.5152 or 10.30.0.5152 | Blue-screen error | Addressed by newer compatible drivers; see the driver guidance below. Microsoft’s resolved-issues entry |
| Gaming and RGB-related components | Some devices with RGB-equipped peripherals or internal components and associated drivers or code components | Some games became unresponsive or closed; an exception or unexpected restart was also reported | Marked resolved August 26, 2026. Microsoft’s resolved-issues entry |
| Dirac Audio | Some devices using Dirac Audio and cridspapo.dll |
Integrated or Bluetooth speakers and headsets lost audio output | Driver vendor resolution; safeguard hold removed September 2025. Microsoft’s resolved-issues entry |
| Camera-related application hangs | A limited set of camera devices using object or face detection | Applications, including Camera or Windows Hello-related scenarios, could hang | Safeguard hold removed September 2025. Microsoft’s resolved-issues entry |
| Wallpaper customization | Some devices using wallpaper customization applications | Applications could fail to launch or display correctly | Safeguard hold removed October 2025. Microsoft’s resolved-issues entry |
sprotect.sys compatibility |
Devices running software that used the driver | Device could become unresponsive and show a blue or black screen | Newer versions of the software resolved the issue; hold removed October 2025. Microsoft’s resolved-issues entry |
These entries do not establish how many PCs were affected. They also do not mean that a device is affected simply because it runs version 24H2.
How to check whether the Intel SST issue applies to your PC
The Intel SST incident has a narrow match: the PC must have both an 11th Gen Intel Core processor and one of the two implicated driver versions. Microsoft identifies the controller in Device Manager as Intel Smart Sound Technology Audio Controller under System devices; the associated file is IntcAudioBus.sys.

- 1.1 GHz (boost up to 2.4GHz) Intel Celeron N5030 Quad-Core
- Open Device Manager and expand System devices.
- Find Intel Smart Sound Technology Audio Controller, open its properties, and check the driver details and version.
- Compare the version with
10.29.0.5152and10.30.0.5152. The documented compatibility concern applies when one of these versions is installed on a device with an 11th Gen Intel Core processor.
A blue screen alone does not confirm this particular issue; the processor and driver must match the documented configuration.
How to address the Intel SST driver incompatibility
Microsoft says the issue is addressed by compatible Intel SST drivers version 10.30.00.5714 or later, or 10.29.00.5714 or later. For most users, Microsoft recommends checking Windows Update first: “For most users, updated drivers can be installed via Windows Update by checking for Windows updates on your device. This is the preferred method of installing these and other drivers.”

- Open Settings > Windows Update, select Check for updates, and install any compatible driver offered for your device.
- Check the driver version again in Device Manager to confirm it meets the applicable minimum above.
- If Windows Update does not offer a suitable driver, contact the PC manufacturer for a driver intended for your specific hardware.
While the compatibility hold was in place, Microsoft advised against manually installing 24H2 with the Installation Assistant or Media Creation Tool on affected devices. If the hold remains after updating the driver, follow the device maker’s guidance rather than forcing the upgrade.
What caused the 24H2 gaming reports?
Microsoft’s incident entry says that after Windows updates released August 11, 2026 and later, some devices could fail to run ARC Raiders, MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls, or THE FINALS as expected. Reported behavior included an unresponsive game, an unexpected close, an EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION message, or an unexpected device restart.

Microsoft attributed the problem not to Windows updates, but to drivers or code components associated with RGB-equipped peripherals or internal components. Some such components may have names similar to inpoutx64. The issue was triggered when launching certain games and was marked resolved on August 26, 2026. That resolution status does not establish that every similar crash has the same cause.
If the symptoms match, check Microsoft’s current release-health guidance and the driver or software for the implicated device. The documented entry does not establish that replacing a peripheral is necessary.

What other 24H2 issues are listed, and what is their status?
The incidents in Microsoft’s resolved-issues list affect different devices and applications. Dirac audio loss, camera-related hangs, wallpaper customization failures, and the sprotect.sys compatibility problem each had separate scopes and resolution histories, as shown above; they should not be treated as one continuing 24H2 bug.
The separate known-issues and notifications page also listed a confirmed AC-3 (Dolby Digital) decoding issue after updates released September 22, 2026 and later. On the page last updated October 7, 2026, Microsoft said some applications might fail to launch, close unexpectedly, or fail when using a feature such as music playback. Many modern applications use their own decoding components and will not encounter it; the page showed a future resolution as pending.

That page also listed a mitigated black-screen or desktop-loading problem mainly observed on Azure Virtual Desktop hosts using FSLogix, and mitigated problems affecting some USB Audio Class 1.0 devices after the September 8, 2026 update. Status labels and dates matter: an item listed as resolved or mitigated is not equivalent to an issue Microsoft still labels confirmed.
What should you do if Windows 11 24H2 is having problems?
- Match the symptom to the precise Microsoft entry instead of assuming that 24H2 itself is the cause.
- Check the implicated update, processor or device, driver name and version, and application.
- Use Windows Update for the Intel SST driver first; ask the device manufacturer for hardware-specific driver guidance if it is unavailable.
- Check the live Microsoft status page before changing hardware or forcing an upgrade, because issue status can change.
As of the Microsoft status page’s March 27, 2026 update, Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro editions were scheduled to reach end of updates on October 13, 2026. Microsoft said unmanaged Home and Pro devices would receive Windows 11 25H2 automatically, with users able to choose restart timing or postpone. Because the stated servicing date is close, check the live page for current lifecycle details.
