Windows Update logs might show 0x80240069 and Service wuauserv has unexpectedly stopped. The separate description of an svchost.exe_wuauserv access-violation crash comes from Windows Latest’s April 30, 2025 report, not Microsoft’s release-health wording.
What the Windows 11 24H2 WSUS issue involved
Microsoft’s resolved-issues documentation for Windows 11 22H2 describes a failure in which devices with specified April 2025 updates could be unable to update to Windows 11 24H2 through WSUS. The reported context is an administrator-managed feature-update deployment, not a general claim that Windows 11 Home PCs or all consumer Windows Update attempts are affected. Microsoft’s Windows 11 22H2 resolved-issues page gives the official issue description and Known Issue Rollback (KIR) context.
Microsoft says Windows Update logs might record error 0x80240069. Additional logs might contain the exact message Service wuauserv has unexpectedly stopped, referring to the Windows Update service. Windows Latest reported on April 30, 2025 that the WSUS feature-update attempt could crash svchost.exe_wuauserv with an access violation. That report also discusses SCCM deployments that use WSUS for this scenario; the process-crash wording is the outlet’s framing, rather than the wording on Microsoft’s issue page. Read the Windows Latest report.
How to tell whether a report matches this incident
An error code by itself is not enough to identify the cause. Compare the update being deployed, the source device’s Windows version and installed updates, the management route, and the service or process details in the logs.

- 1.1 GHz (boost up to 2.4GHz) Intel Celeron N5030 Quad-Core
- Target: The April incident concerns the Windows 11 24H2 feature update delivered through WSUS.
- Source device: Microsoft’s description specifies devices with certain April 2025 updates. Check the applicable release-health entry for the exact affected configuration.
- Deployment route: Determine whether the attempt used WSUS directly, SCCM/MECM using WSUS, or consumer Windows Update. The cited reports concern managed deployment.
- Log evidence: Look for
0x80240069and thewuauservstopped-unexpectedly message; Windows Latest separately reports thesvchost.exe_wuauservaccess violation. - Issue status: Match the symptoms to the Microsoft release-health page and its resolution guidance for that update and source configuration.
Microsoft’s response for enterprise-managed devices
Microsoft’s supported response reference for the April issue is its Known Issue Rollback guidance for enterprise-managed devices. Administrators should consult the current instructions on the Microsoft issue page and validate the target operating system, installed updates, management configuration, and deployment state before applying policy. KIR is the Microsoft-directed path described for this managed issue; it should not be replaced with an unverified registry edit.
Windows Latest also reported registry values attributed to Microsoft support staff, but that secondary report does not establish manual registry editing as the universal or current Microsoft fix. Use Microsoft’s current release-health instructions for the affected environment rather than treating those reported values as general guidance.

Why another 0x80240069 report may be unrelated
Microsoft’s August 12, 2025 notes describe a different WSUS problem: update KB5063878 might fail to install through WSUS with the same 0x80240069 code. The shared code does not establish a shared root cause with the April Windows 11 24H2 feature-update failure. Microsoft’s KB5063878 notes identify that separate update and deployment context.
For present-day deployment decisions, check the live Windows 11 24H2 release-health page and the Microsoft guidance for the exact update involved. The cited 2025 descriptions do not, by themselves, establish whether either issue remains open today.
