Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 is a specialized edition of Windows 10 for devices that should remain stable for years rather than receive regular feature changes. It is intended for systems such as medical equipment, industrial controllers, point-of-sale terminals, kiosks, and fixed-purpose business computers.
It is based on Windows 10 version 21H2 and uses OS build 19044. Unlike ordinary Windows 10 editions, it receives monthly quality and security updates without going through the normal feature-update process.
There is an important licensing and support distinction: standard Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 reaches end of support on January 12, 2027. The ten-year lifecycle often associated with LTSC applies to Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021, not the standard Enterprise edition.
What Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 is
LTSC means Long-Term Servicing Channel. Microsoft releases LTSC editions for specialized devices and environments where changing the operating system’s features could disrupt the device’s function.

Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 became generally available on November 16, 2021. Its feature set corresponds broadly to Windows 10 21H2, but it uses a different servicing model and omits many applications normally included in mainstream Windows installations.
LTSC is not simply “Windows 10 with updates turned off.” It is a separate Enterprise product with its own installation media, licensing requirements, application set, and lifecycle.
Support lifecycle
| Edition | Release date | Build | Support ends |
|---|---|---|---|
| Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 | November 16, 2021 | 19044 | January 12, 2027 |
| Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021 | November 16, 2021 | 19044 | January 13, 2032 |
Standard Enterprise LTSC 2021 has a five-year lifecycle and does not receive extended support after January 12, 2027. Do not use the IoT date when planning ordinary Enterprise LTSC deployments.
Normal Windows 10 Home, Pro, and non-LTSC Enterprise editions have different servicing dates. The status of ordinary Windows 10 version 21H2 does not determine the support date for Enterprise LTSC 2021.
Microsoft’s lifecycle page is the appropriate source for confirming the edition’s support deadline.
What is included and omitted
LTSC 2021 deliberately excludes much of the Microsoft Store application stack. A standard installation does not include applications such as:
- Microsoft Store
- Cortana
- Mail and Calendar
- OneNote
- Weather, News, Sports, and Money
- Photos and Camera
- Music and Clock
The absence of these applications is normally expected behavior, not evidence of a broken installation. LTSC is designed to minimize application and feature changes.
Microsoft Edge is included
Claims that LTSC 2021 does not include Edge are outdated. Microsoft Edge is included in-box beginning with Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021. Edge kiosk mode is also available, which is useful for public terminals and single-purpose devices.

Current build and monthly updates
LTSC does not receive normal feature updates through Windows Update, but it does receive monthly cumulative quality and security updates.
As of August 7, 2026, the latest listed cumulative update for this servicing line is:
- KB5099539
- Released July 14, 2026
- OS build 19044.7548
- Also applies to Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021
The update includes the combined servicing-stack update KB5104021, version 19041.7546.
KB5099539 addressed several issues, including an OLE Automation compatibility problem introduced by the June 2026 security update, incorrect internal filenames appearing in Recycle Bin confirmation dialogs, and a OneDrive File Explorer shortcut problem when Explorer runs elevated or under the built-in Administrator account.
Microsoft also warns that Secure Boot certificates used by many Windows devices began expiring from June 2026. Affected organizations should follow Microsoft’s Secure Boot certificate-update guidance rather than assume that installing ordinary monthly updates completes the certificate transition.
Licensing and activation
Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 is an Enterprise volume-licensing product. A retail Windows 10 Home or Pro key does not activate it.

Microsoft publishes the following generic volume license key (GVLK) for the edition:
M7XTQ-FN8P6-TTKYV-9D4CC-J462D
This key is a KMS client setup key. It does not independently activate Windows and is not a retail license. It requires an organization’s KMS host or another valid volume-activation method, such as a MAK.

KMS clients normally locate the organization’s KMS host through the DNS service record:
_vlmcs._tcp
If DNS discovery fails or no KMS host is available, activation may return 0x8007232B, “DNS name does not exist.” Installing the public GVLK alone cannot fix that error. The computer must be able to reach the organization’s activation infrastructure.
KMS clients have a 30-day initial grace period and periodically attempt activation. After successful activation, they must continue contacting the organization’s KMS infrastructure to renew activation.

Evaluation ISO versus licensed installation media
Microsoft provides a Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 evaluation ISO through the Evaluation Center. The download is available in 32-bit and 64-bit editions and multiple languages, but the evaluation is limited to 90 days.
Back up files and settings before installing an evaluation copy. After downloading the ISO, verify its integrity against Microsoft’s published SHA-256 hash. In PowerShell, run:
Get-FileHash C:Usersuser1DownloadsWindows10EnterpriseLTSC2021.iso
Compare the resulting hash with Microsoft’s published hash list. A hash mismatch means the file should not be used until the download has been obtained again from a trusted source.

Licensed volume media is separate from the evaluation download. Authorized users can obtain it in the Microsoft 365 admin center through:
Billing > Your products > Volume licensing > View downloads and keys
The account needs an appropriate Volume Licensing administrator or product-download role.
Upgrade and installation rules
From ordinary Windows 10 to LTSC
A supported in-place upgrade from a normal Windows General Availability Channel installation to Windows LTSC is not available. Mounting the LTSC ISO and running Setup over Windows 10 Home, Pro, or ordinary Enterprise is not a supported upgrade path.
Use a clean installation, or plan a supported data-only migration where appropriate. Back up application data, export configuration, and confirm that the device’s drivers and business software support the LTSC image before replacing the operating system.
From LTSC to ordinary Enterprise
Microsoft documents an in-place path from Windows LTSC to the General Availability Channel when the target is the same or a newer build version and the other Windows Setup requirements are met.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFor a KMS-based conversion to normal Windows Enterprise, Microsoft gives this example:
setup.exe /pkey NPPR9-FWDCX-D2C8J-H872K-2YT43
This is the KMS client key for normal Windows Enterprise, not for Enterprise LTSC. The source and target must still match Setup requirements for edition, language, architecture, build, and deployment conditions.
Moving to a later LTSC release
LTSC does not receive feature releases through ordinary Windows Update. Moving from LTSC 2021 to a later LTSC release is a separate operating-system upgrade project. Test the target release, verify application and driver compatibility, and confirm that the organization has the correct license and installation media.

LTSC 2021 also supports the newer MDM Local Users and Groups policy settings documented by Microsoft.
Who should use it?
LTSC 2021 is a reasonable fit when a computer performs a stable, defined role and feature changes create more risk than value. Examples include:
- Medical and diagnostic equipment
- Industrial and manufacturing systems
- Point-of-sale terminals
- Digital signage and kiosks
- Warehouse or logistics terminals
- Fixed-purpose control stations
It is usually a poor choice for a general office PC that needs the latest Windows features, Microsoft Store applications, or a longer support period. Before deploying it, check the support deadline carefully: a device installed today may have a relatively short remaining lifecycle if it uses standard Enterprise LTSC 2021 rather than the IoT edition.
Important misconceptions
| Claim | Correct position |
|---|---|
| “LTSC 2021 has ten years of support.” | Only Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021 has the January 2032 support date. Standard Enterprise LTSC 2021 ends January 12, 2027. |
| “LTSC gets no updates.” | It receives monthly quality and security updates, but not normal feature updates. |
| “LTSC 2021 does not include Edge.” | Microsoft Edge is included in-box in LTSC 2021. |
| “The public KMS key activates Windows.” | The GVLK identifies the computer as a KMS client. Activation still requires valid volume-activation infrastructure. |
| “A Windows 10 Pro key activates Enterprise LTSC.” | The product key must match the installed edition and licensing channel. |
| “The Microsoft Store can always be restored by re-registering its package.” | The Store and many Store-delivered applications are intentionally absent. Unofficial package workarounds are not a supported way to turn LTSC into a normal Windows installation. |
FAQ
Is Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 still supported?
Yes. Standard Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 is supported through January 12, 2027 and continues to receive monthly quality and security updates until then. It does not receive normal feature updates.
Recommended Free Tools
Does LTSC 2021 include Microsoft Edge?
Yes. Microsoft Edge is included in-box in Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021, and Edge kiosk mode is available.
Does Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 include the Microsoft Store?
No. The normal Microsoft Store application set, including Store, Mail, Calendar, Photos, Weather, and several other inbox apps, is intentionally omitted.
Can a Windows 10 Pro product key activate Enterprise LTSC 2021?
No. Enterprise LTSC 2021 uses Enterprise volume licensing. A Pro retail key does not activate the LTSC edition.
Will the Windows 10 LTSC KMS key activate a computer by itself?
No. The published key is a GVLK for KMS clients. The computer still needs access to an organization’s KMS host or another valid volume-activation method.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Can I upgrade normal Windows 10 to LTSC without reinstalling?
Microsoft does not support an in-place upgrade from the normal General Availability Channel to LTSC. Use a clean installation or a supported data-only migration plan.
What is the difference between Enterprise LTSC 2021 and IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021?
They are separate products with different licensing and lifecycle details. Standard Enterprise LTSC 2021 support ends January 12, 2027, while IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021 is listed through January 13, 2032.
The Bottom Line
Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 is a stable, reduced-change Windows edition for specialized systems—not a general-purpose replacement for Windows 10 Pro. It includes Edge and WSL, receives monthly security and quality updates, and omits the normal Store application stack. Confirm the edition and license before deployment, because standard Enterprise LTSC 2021 reaches end of support on January 12, 2027 and cannot be activated with an ordinary retail Windows key.
