It depends on which “touch gestures” you mean. Mac Multi-Touch gestures work with a built-in Multi-Touch trackpad or a Magic Trackpad; your Mac’s Trackpad settings show which gestures it supports. If you mean using gestures in iPhone Mirroring, Apple has separate Mac, iPhone, software, and regional requirements.
Check whether your Mac supports trackpad gestures
Apple’s trackpad gestures require a built-in Multi-Touch trackpad or a Magic Trackpad. A Mac’s age or model name alone is not the most useful check: Apple says the Trackpad settings on your Mac show which gestures are available for that Mac.
- Open Apple menu > System Settings > Trackpad.
- Review the gesture controls and demonstrations. Available gestures can be viewed, customized, or turned off in settings.
- If the Mac is a desktop model, or its built-in trackpad is unavailable, connect a Magic Trackpad and check the settings again.
Apple documents gestures such as tap to click, two-finger secondary click and scrolling, pinch to zoom, rotate, and multi-finger navigation. The exact options and configuration can vary by Mac and macOS version. For example, Apple notes that Mission Control may use a three-finger gesture on some versions and a four-finger gesture on others. See Apple’s Use Multi-Touch gestures on your Mac guide.
Built-in trackpad, Magic Trackpad, or Magic Mouse?

To inspect or customize mouse gestures, open Apple menu > System Settings > Mouse. Apple’s View and customise mouse or trackpad gestures on Mac explains the settings.

If you mean gestures in iPhone Mirroring
iPhone Mirroring is a different compatibility question from ordinary Mac trackpad gestures. Apple says the Mac’s mouse or trackpad can click, hold, scroll, and swipe in the mirrored iPhone, but the feature has its own device and software requirements.
- Mac: macOS Sequoia 15 or later, and either Apple silicon or the Apple T2 Security Chip.
- iPhone: iOS 18 or later.
- Region: Apple currently says iPhone Mirroring is unavailable in the European Union.
Check Apple’s current iPhone Mirroring: Use your iPhone from your Mac requirements before troubleshooting. A Mac that supports trackpad gestures does not necessarily meet iPhone Mirroring’s hardware, operating-system, or regional requirements.
