In August 2023, Chrome Unboxed reported that Agah and the related Hades project had been discontinued. That means there is no established Agah model to buy; the Acer Chromebook 516 GE is a separate option for cloud gaming, not an NVIDIA discrete-GPU Chromebook.
What was Agah?
Agah was a codename associated with a Chromebook project, not a retail model with a published specification. In June 2022, Chrome Unboxed linked it to Intel’s 12th-generation Alder Lake platform and NVIDIA graphics based on Chromium development references. The report discussed HP as a possible manufacturer, but that was speculation—not confirmation of an HP product. No final NVIDIA GPU model, release date, price, or retail configuration was established. Chrome Unboxed’s 2022 report on Agah
Was the NVIDIA Chromebook released?
No Agah retail release is established by the available reporting. On August 18, 2023, Chrome Unboxed reported that Chromium repository changes marked Agah and the related Hades project discontinued, and that the NVIDIA discrete-GPU Chromebook plans would not reach consumers. The cancellation account comes from secondary reporting; the sources available do not include a first-party Google or manufacturer cancellation announcement. What can you buy for Chromebook gaming instead?
Google’s 2022 cloud-gaming Chromebook lineup included the Acer Chromebook 516 GE, ASUS Chromebook Vibe CX55 Flip, and Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming Chromebook. These devices were promoted for streaming games through GeForce NOW, Xbox Cloud Gaming, and Amazon Luna. They are not evidence that Agah shipped, and the Acer 516 GE should not be mistaken for a Chromebook with an NVIDIA discrete GPU. Check the current listing and configuration for any model you consider, because the 2022 announcement does not establish present-day availability. Google’s 2022 cloud-gaming Chromebook announcement

Local graphics versus cloud streaming
A Chromebook with a discrete GPU would render games on its own hardware. With cloud gaming, a remote server runs the game and streams the result to the Chromebook, so the experience depends on the service, connection quality, and latency as well as the laptop’s screen and controls. Google’s announcement described access to more than 1,500 PC and console games across the three services; that was a dated company figure, not a current catalog count or a promise that every game is available through every service.
Google said GameBench independently tested the announced lineup at 120 frames per second and under 85 ms input latency. Its footnote specifies testing at 1080p, while plugged into power, playing Fortnite and Destiny 2 with early-access GeForce NOW test accounts. These are Google’s reported test results under those conditions, not a guarantee for every title, network, Chromebook, or current service tier. Google also said GeForce NOW’s RTX 3080 membership could stream at up to 1600p and 120 frames per second on supported gaming Chromebooks; that was a cloud-service capability claim, not an Agah hardware specification. What to check before choosing a cloud-gaming Chromebook
- Confirm that the games you want are supported by the cloud service available to you, and check its current account and membership requirements.
- Consider your network connection and latency. Streaming sends game video over the network, so a fast, stable connection matters; wired and Wi-Fi conditions can produce different results.
- Match the Chromebook’s display resolution and refresh rate to the streaming settings you expect to use.
- Check whether a game runs locally or remotely. A cloud-gaming model is not a substitute for local discrete-GPU rendering.
Does ChromeOS support GPU acceleration?
Google’s Chromebook Help page says GPU hardware acceleration and video decode are not supported in the Linux development environment on Chromebooks. That limitation is specific to Linux development on ChromeOS; it does not establish that ChromeOS lacks GPU acceleration in every context. Google Chromebook Help: Set up Linux on your Chromebook
