No—Rockstar and PlayStation list the standard PS5 as a supported platform for Grand Theft Auto VI, and neither says a PS5 Pro is required. The PlayStation Store does label the game “PS5 Pro Enhanced,” but the official pages reviewed do not spell out what that means for resolution, frame rate, or other specific features. A standard PS5 owner has no stated GTA 6 requirement to upgrade for.
Which consoles are listed for GTA 6?
Rockstar lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S as platforms for Grand Theft Auto VI. PlayStation’s official game page lists both PS5 and PS5 Pro, and says the game will not be available for PS4. Rockstar also says its extended look at the game was captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5. That confirms PS5 is a development and presentation platform, but it does not guarantee a particular frame rate or graphics mode in the finished game. Rockstar’s announcement lists PS5 and Xbox Series X|S for launch.
What does “PS5 Pro Enhanced” mean?
The PlayStation Store listing marks GTA VI as “PS5 Pro Enhanced.” That is an official Pro enhancement designation, but the reviewed listing does not give a technical comparison between the standard PS5 and PS5 Pro. It does not specify resolution targets, frame rates, graphics settings, or features exclusive to the Pro. The label alone is not evidence of a required upgrade or a promise of 60 frames per second.

In a June 24, 2026 PlayStation Blog post, Sony Interactive Entertainment Senior Vice President of Marketing Mary Yee said GTA VI “will play best on PS5” by taking advantage of PS5 features. This is Sony’s platform marketing statement; it does not explain how the standard PS5 and Pro versions compare. The Store’s enhancement label and the statement should not be read as a quantified performance claim. Read PlayStation’s post or view the PlayStation Store listing.
Should you buy a PS5 Pro for GTA 6?
If you already own a standard PS5
No official requirement gives you a GTA 6-specific reason to upgrade. Whether you want a PS5 Pro for its broader features is a separate decision; the reviewed official sources do not establish the game’s measurable Pro performance gains.

If you are choosing a console
Compare the consoles based on their current prices, the games you already play, and the image or performance features you value. GTA VI-specific technical details are not yet sufficient to recommend the Pro on performance grounds alone.

PlayStation lists November 19, 2026 as the release date for PS5 and PS5 Pro. Because the game is still upcoming, check the official PlayStation listing for updates as launch approaches.

Rockstar lists Standard and Ultimate editions and says the physical version contains a code for a digital download. Check the regional listing and format before buying rather than assuming a physical copy includes a game disc. Rockstar’s edition and format details are subject to change.
