Google’s plan to use parts of the Android stack in ChromeOS could eventually change how Android apps fit into the platform, but Google did not name Rush or promise Chromebook support. Adobe stopped Rush downloads on September 30, 2025, and says technical support ends September 30, 2026.
What Google’s Android-stack shift means for ChromeOS
On June 12, 2024, Google said ChromeOS development would use parts of the Android stack, including the Android Linux kernel and Android frameworks. Google described the goals as accelerating AI and other innovation, simplifying engineering, and improving connections among phones, accessories, and Chromebooks. It did not give a consumer release date. The announcement said the work was beginning but would not be ready for consumers for quite some time. Google’s announcement did not mention Adobe Premiere Rush.
ChromeOS already has ARCVM, an Android runtime that runs Android inside a virtual machine. ChromeOS.dev explains that its customized Linux guest kernel is based on the Android Common Kernel, with patches for ChromeOS; this design helps separate Android from the host kernel and makes Android upgrades easier. ARCVM is existing architecture, not proof that Google’s broader stack transition is complete or that any particular Android app will be listed or supported. ChromeOS.dev’s ARCVM overview describes that runtime.
Is Adobe Premiere Rush available on Chromebook?
Adobe’s discontinuation FAQ says Rush downloads ended on September 30, 2025, including through Adobe.com and mobile app stores. People who already have it installed may continue using it, but Adobe cautions that new devices and operating-system updates can affect reliability and performance. Adobe’s stated technical-support cutoff is September 30, 2026; after that, Rush will no longer be available through Creative Cloud desktop and the apps may no longer function. Adobe’s discontinuation FAQ, last updated March 27, 2026, has the current lifecycle details.

- Intel Celeron N4120: 4 Cores & Threads, 1.1GHz Base Clock, Up to 2.6GHz Boost Clock, 4MB Cache, Intel UHD Graphics 600. The perfect combination of performance, power consumption, and value helps your device handle multitasking smoothly and reliably with four processing cores to divide up the work.
Those dates describe Adobe’s product lifecycle, not a Chromebook-specific support promise. Adobe’s mobile FAQ discusses installation on Android phones and says Rush is not supported on Android tablets; that does not establish Chromebook compatibility. Adobe’s mobile Rush FAQ should not be read as confirming Chromebook support.
What to use instead—and what remains uncertain
Adobe identifies Premiere on iPhone and Premiere on desktop as its replacement direction. It also says, “An Android version of Premiere is also in development.” The cited FAQ does not say when that Android app will arrive or whether it will support Chromebooks. Google’s kernel and framework plans do not answer those questions.

| Practical path | What is established | Availability and risk |
|---|---|---|
| Existing Rush installation | Installed copies may continue to work, according to Adobe. | Downloads ended September 30, 2025; Adobe says support ends September 30, 2026. New hardware or OS updates may affect reliability and performance. |
| Premiere on iPhone or desktop | Adobe names these as replacement paths. | Use the relevant iPhone or desktop version; these are not evidence of Chromebook support. |
| Premiere for Android | Adobe says an Android version is in development. | Release timing and Chromebook eligibility are not confirmed in the cited FAQ. |
For existing Rush projects, Adobe advises considering remaining on current configurations while transitioning. That is a way to reduce change-related disruption, not a guarantee that an installation will keep working after support ends.
How to check whether your Chromebook can run Android apps
Android app access varies by Chromebook, and access to Google Play does not guarantee that a specific app is compatible. Google says some Chromebook models do not support Play Store apps, some apps do not work on some models, and work or school administrators can restrict Play Store access. Google’s Chromebook help gives the device check:
Rank #3
- Intel Processor Up to 2.80GHz, 4GB DDR4, 128GB Storage
- 15" FHD IPS Display, Intel UHD Graphics
- 1x USB Type C, 1 x USB Type A, 1x Headphone/Microphone Combo Jack, HDMI
- Fast WiFi and Bluetooth, Integrated Webcam
- Chrome OS, AC Charger Included, Pastel Silver
- Open Settings on the Chromebook.
- Select Apps, then Manage Google Play preferences.
- If that option is missing, Google says the Chromebook does not support Android apps. If it is present, Play Store access still does not confirm compatibility with Rush or a future Premiere Android app.
Hardware architecture can also affect Android apps that include native code. Android Developers notes that many Chromebooks use x86 chips while many Android phones use ARM; some x86 Chromebooks translate ARM code, which can reduce performance and battery life. This is a general compatibility consideration, not evidence about Rush’s binaries or any app’s Chromebook listing. Android Developers’ ABI guide explains the architecture distinction.

A closer relationship between ChromeOS and Android may make future app integration a reasonable possibility to watch, but there are separate hurdles: Google’s consumer rollout has no date in the cited announcement, Adobe has ended Rush downloads, and Adobe has not confirmed that its Android Premiere app will run on Chromebooks. Until Adobe or Google makes a specific compatibility announcement, the kernel shift is a platform direction—not a reason to expect Rush to return.
