First identify what the encounter is asking you to do, then check whether your formation, artifacts, cores, and spending match that need. Total Power is a useful signal, but it is not a complete measure of readiness.
Start with the failure, not the team’s power score
“Underperforming” can mean several different things: running out of time, losing hunters, failing to break a boss, dealing too little damage, or missing a battle mission condition. Each points toward a different fix. Check the encounter details and the exact condition you are failing before changing equipment or spending materials.
For Unstable Dungeon, Netmarble says bosses rotate weekly and recommends reviewing boss details to plan a strategic formation. The mode also lets you inspect recommended hunter artifacts and stats. Use those current, encounter-specific recommendations rather than assuming a build that worked in one fight will transfer to another. Netmarble’s Unstable Dungeon guide
What Total Power tells you—and what it does not
Netmarble describes Battle Class as a variable calculation based on formation, and says its Total Power includes Armory boosts. That makes the number useful for tracking broad account growth, but it does not establish that your team has the right equipment or setup for every encounter. Netmarble’s Battle Class guide

If your score is high but the fight still stalls, look for a specific mismatch: a formation that does not address the encounter, an artifact set or stat setup that does not help the equipped hunter, a core with irrelevant stats, or upgrades spread across units you are not using. The score alone does not identify which of those is the problem.
Check formation and role coverage against the encounter
Review the current mode’s recommendations and your roster’s actual kits. Choose hunters whose abilities address the fight you are attempting, rather than copying a fixed composition from a different stage or relying on a universal “best team.” The official formation guidance supports strategic planning, but does not prescribe one lineup for all content.
When deciding what to change, name the missing function in the fight: for example, whether you need more damage, better survival, or a way to handle the boss’s mechanics. Then compare the hunters you own and their current in-game abilities against that need. Because recommendations and character details can change with updates, verify patch-sensitive skill and build claims in the live game.

Audit artifacts for set effects, stats, and upgrade costs
Artifact item level is only part of the picture. Netmarble says matching artifact sets grant additional effects, and its guide describes enhancement, enchantment, and reforging as separate systems. Enhancement can add or improve supporting stats at specified tiers; enchantment consumes materials and gold; reforging changes stat values while preserving the enhancement tier and enchantment stats. - Check whether the equipped pieces complete a useful set for that hunter and encounter.
- Compare the actual stats on the pieces rather than choosing only by item level.
- Before enchanting or reforging, inspect the cost and decide whether the current piece is worth further investment.
- Use the live character kit and encounter needs to decide which stats are useful; do not chase one stat on every hunter by default.
Artifact rolls are not guaranteed. Netmarble’s rates page lists each of six ring main-stat options at an individual rate of 8.3333% (year not stated on the page) and cautions that displayed rates are rounded up. That is a rate for a listed ring main-stat option—not the chance of getting a complete ideal artifact. Netmarble’s artifact rates page
Treat cores as a separate equipment audit
Cores can be equipped by Sung Jinwoo and hunters. Each has two random stats plus a unique stat; leveling can improve the two stats, enhancement randomly selects one of them, and limit breaking expands the core’s level and stats. Because improvement involves both resources and random results, inspect the core’s actual stats and unique effect before investing in it. Netmarble’s core guide

Ask whether the equipped core helps the bottleneck you identified in the fight. A higher-level core is not automatically a better fit if its stats or unique effect do not support the hunter’s job in that encounter.
Understand the Armory before reading too much into Total Power
The Armory is another source of displayed power. Netmarble says owned Sung Jinwoo exclusive weapons can be registered in unlocked slots, which gain a percentage of the weapon’s Total Power; enhancing slots costs Marks of Time. Check whether the system is unlocked on your account and understand its contribution before treating the score as proof that a particular hunter’s equipment is complete. Netmarble’s Armory guide

Growth materials and gold are used across crafting and upgrades, so broad, unplanned investment can leave you short of the resources needed for a targeted fix. Before committing supplies, identify whether the failing fight calls for a formation change, relevant equipment, or one specific upgrade.

A practical rule is to make one change aimed at one observed failure, then try the encounter again. If the result does not address that failure, revisit the diagnosis rather than upgrading a different system at random.

Exact builds and character rankings are time-sensitive. Netmarble’s public guides include test-version caveats, and the developer acknowledged tooltip discrepancies in a June 2024 notice. Check current in-game tooltips, patch notes, and mode rules before relying on precise character or skill recommendations. The draw screen lets players review appearance rates and draw history, and Netmarble’s guide describes a support gauge. Those are tools for understanding draws, not evidence that spending is necessary to fix a team. Netmarble’s draw guide
Likewise, selector recommendations can be tied to a particular event and version. A Prydwen guide published for a February 2025 selector event discusses Legendary Blessing Stones and Skill Runes, but its advice should not be treated as a current, universal priority. Prydwen’s selector guide
