If your MMO outfit is not showing up, first check whether it is missing on the character-selection screen, in the game world, or only for other players. Then check for an appearance override, a hidden cosmetic slot, an unapplied change, or a different saved outfit. The controls vary by game, so use the examples below only if you play the named MMO.
First, narrow down where the outfit is missing
Compare the character-selection screen with your character after entering the game. If the outfit looks wrong in only one place, you may be dealing with a display issue rather than an outfit that failed to apply. Also check whether the problem affects one character or several, one cosmetic slot or the whole outfit, and whether you see the same appearance as other players.
For example, Blizzard’s February 2026 pre-expansion notes for World of Warcraft listed a fix for some characters on different realms whose transmog outfit did not display on the Character Select screen. That was a specific WoW bug, not a general fix for other MMOs. Read Blizzard’s WoW pre-expansion notes.
Check for an appearance override
Equipped gear and visible appearance can be controlled separately. A costume, disguise, or another appearance effect may cover the armor you expect to see, even though the gear remains equipped.

The Elder Scrolls Online
Bethesda lists disguises, costumes, Style Parlor selections, and vampirism among possible reasons a character’s appearance may differ. Disguises can alter visible equipment, while costumes visually replace the appearance of clothing. Bethesda’s appearance troubleshooting guide describes these causes.
If armor appears at login but disappears after you enter play, inspect the Apparel accessory slots and remove any active disguise. You can also turn the current Outfit on or off from Collections’ Outfit Styles section or the Character UI. If the armor graphics still do not change and no disguise is equipped, Bethesda directs players to submit an in-game ticket. Make sure the cosmetic change is enabled and applied
Some games let you hide individual cosmetic slots, or require a separate action to apply the selected appearance. Changing a skin in a menu may not immediately change what appears in the game world.

Guild Wars 2’s Fashion Templates guidance says to select the checkbox on a cosmetic item’s thumbnail to enable or disable that slot, then click Apply to equipment for changes to show in the game world. An equipped Outfit overrides other armor cosmetics on the active Fashion Template, so check whether one is covering the armor skins you selected. See the official Fashion Templates guidance.

The support article says saved Fashion Templates can be applied to gear sets without a transmutation charge, while changing skins when saving a template may cost charges. Costs and interface behavior can change, so check the current in-game UI rather than relying on an older cost description.
Confirm the intended saved outfit is active
When a game supports multiple saved outfits, the visible one may not be the outfit you last edited. Check the active outfit or template, and look for rules that switch outfits automatically when you change specialization, enter a dungeon, or meet another condition.
World of Warcraft
Blizzard’s February 12, 2026 announcement described an updated transmog system built around Outfit Slots, with multiple saved outfits and situation-based switching. Blizzard said, “You can also switch outfits automatically for different situations in the game.” If you play WoW, check the active Outfit Slot and any situation rule that might select another look. The announcement describes the Midnight-era system, so confirm current menus and costs in the game or current patch information. Owning or learning an appearance does not necessarily make it usable by every character. Blizzard support explains that a character may learn an appearance for a gear type that another character cannot equip. If a particular character cannot select a collected appearance, check the game’s eligibility rules for that item and character rather than assuming the collection entry guarantees access. Escalate a problem that persists
If you have checked for overrides, enabled the relevant slots, applied the changes, and confirmed the right outfit is active, use the game’s official support channel. In ESO, Bethesda specifically recommends an in-game ticket when armor graphics remain incorrect after checking for a disguise. For another MMO, provide support with the game and platform, the affected character, where the appearance is wrong, and the steps you already tried.
