If your Android phone slows down at about the same time each day, first check whether a scheduled power-saving or device-maintenance feature is running. Google documents delays when Battery Saver limits background activity, and Samsung Galaxy phones can run Device Care optimization once daily. These are useful leads—not proof of what is happening on your phone. Settings and labels vary by manufacturer, model, and software version.
Why a slowdown at the same time is a useful clue
A repeatable time pattern suggests checking settings that can activate on a schedule. Note when the slowdown starts and ends, then compare those times with Battery Saver or, on a Galaxy phone, Device Care automation. A match can help narrow down the cause, but timing alone does not show that a setting is responsible.
Do not assume that a backup, sync, update, or particular app is the cause without evidence from your device. The documented settings below are concrete places to start.
Check whether Battery Saver is scheduled
On Android devices that provide this control, open Settings > Battery > Battery Saver and inspect its schedule. The available choices and menu names may differ across devices.

Google says Battery Saver can limit or turn off background activity. While it is on, some visual effects, features, network connections, and apps may experience delays. If the mode is active when the slowdown begins, note that timing and whether the phone feels normal again after it turns off. That correlation is a clue, not a diagnosis.
Google’s Battery Saver help explains the mode and its scheduling options. The Android Open Source Project also notes that routine Battery Saver behavior depends on device-maker configuration, so do not expect the same user-accessible schedule on every Android phone: AOSP power management documentation.

If you have a Samsung Galaxy, check Device Care automation
Samsung documents a daily automatic optimization feature on Galaxy phones. On supported models, the route is Settings > Battery and device care > options > Automation > Auto optimise daily > Time. Samsung says optimization is scheduled once daily by default and runs only when the screen is off and the phone is not in use.
From that automation area, you can change the time, control whether it closes background apps, or turn the feature off. If its scheduled time matches the slowdown, change one setting at a time and observe whether the pattern changes. Menu wording and availability vary by model and Android version.

Check memory and storage if the slowdown is broader
Near-full memory or storage can affect performance, but it does not by itself explain why a slowdown happens at a regular time. On a Galaxy phone, Device Care provides views of storage categories and memory use. Look for unusually large or unused files in storage, and apps using memory in the memory view.

Samsung describes these checks in its Device Care guidance. Use the results to identify a capacity issue rather than treating it as proof of a scheduled cause.

Samsung’s Power saving mode can restrict background networking and syncing; an optional CPU speed limit reduces processing speed. If Power saving is enabled around the time of the slowdown, note its state and schedule, if one is available on your model. The exact controls vary by device and software.

Samsung also documents a scheduled restart option on supported devices. A restart can interrupt use and may require you to unlock the phone afterward. Check whether one is scheduled near the time you notice a problem, but do not change several settings at once if you want to identify which one matters.
Samsung’s US support pages describe these controls and warn that settings vary by model, carrier, and software:
Track the pattern before changing more settings
If the built-in checks do not explain the slowdown, record a few occurrences before changing additional settings. A short log helps separate a consistent connection from coincidence.
- When the slowdown starts and ends.
- Whether Battery Saver or Samsung Power saving is on.
- The scheduled time for Galaxy Auto optimise daily or restart, if present.
- Recent app activity and whether the phone feels unusually hot.
The available documentation does not identify a specific app, thermal fault, or hardware failure as the cause of this symptom. If the slowdown persists and these checks do not explain it, contact the phone manufacturer’s support service for device-specific troubleshooting rather than assuming the phone needs replacement.
