Amazon has not announced a Kindle smaller than 6 inches. Its 2026 entry model remains a 6-inch reader—the company’s “most pocket-sized Kindle”—while recent releases focus on thinner construction, redesigned displays, new materials, color and larger premium screens. A mini Kindle could still appear eventually, but there is no public launch date or official explanation for its absence, so a near-term release should not be assumed.

What counts as “tiny” in the current Kindle range?

If you mean a phone-sized or genuinely palm-sized e-reader, Amazon does not currently offer one. The smallest current Kindle is the 2026 basic model with a 6-inch, 300 ppi glare-free E Ink display. Amazon’s identification page lists USB-C charging, 16 GB of storage and battery life of up to six weeks; those are Amazon’s specifications, not independent test results.

Amazon also lists a separate 2026 6-inch aluminum-backed version with 32 GB of storage. The metal model changes materials and capacity, not screen size. Marketplace listings and availability can vary by country.

What Amazon’s recent releases actually show

The visible product direction is refinement rather than miniaturization. Amazon’s 2026 Kindle family introduced a redesigned reverse-stack display construction, flush-front screens, thinner and more portable hardware, and new materials and colors. The entry model stayed at 6 inches, while premium models remained larger.

Amazon Kindle 16 GB (2024 model) - Light and compact, with fast page turns, and high contrast ratio - Matcha
  • Light and compact - With adjustable brightness, high contrast ratio, and fast page turns.
  • Effortless reading in any light - Read comfortably with a 6“ glare-free display, adjustable front light—now 25% brighter at max setting—and dark mode.
  • Escape into your books - Tune out messages, emails, and social media with a distraction-free reading experience.
  • Read for a while - Get up to 6 weeks of battery life on a single charge.
  • Take your library with you – 16 GB storage holds thousands of books.

That pattern is evidence of product choices, not proof of an undisclosed strategy. Amazon has not said that it will never build a smaller Kindle, nor has it published a timetable for one.

The compact model and larger models coexist

Amazon’s 2024 announcement paired a compact entry Kindle with a 7-inch Paperwhite. The entry Kindle in that announcement weighed 158 g. This shows that Amazon has maintained a smaller basic reader alongside a larger premium device, but it does not establish that a sub-6-inch model is planned.

Why the evidence does not support a confident “Amazon won’t do it” explanation

The reviewed official material gives no direct reason for the lack of a mini Kindle. It does not say that price, demand, battery capacity, durability, reading comfort or engineering constraints ruled one out. Those factors may matter in any hardware decision, but presenting them as Amazon’s stated rationale would be speculation.

A TechRadar interview with Amazon vice president of design Chris Green illustrates the limits of the available evidence. Discussing the location of a Kindle’s power button—not screen size—he said: “The reason why it was at the bottom originally was because it’s the lowest-cost location. The main logic board was down at the bottom with the USB….We were trying our hardest to have the lowest carbon footprint, the lowest cost price, to push it all to the benefit of the customer.” That comment supports cost and internal layout as considerations for that particular design choice. It does not explain the absence of a tiny Kindle.

Does Kindle demand make a mini model likely?

Amazon says more than 720 billion Kindle pages were read in 2025 and that Kindle achieved double-digit global growth for three consecutive years. These are company-reported figures, not independent market statistics. They indicate a large and growing Kindle business, but they do not reveal which screen sizes customers want or predict a new form factor.

Reader discussions include requests such as “Why haven’t they made a palm size kindle?” and hopes for a “mini Kindle announcement.” Those comments demonstrate that some readers want a smaller device; they are anecdotal and do not measure market demand.

What to buy if you want the smallest Kindle now

Choose the current 6-inch Kindle for Kindle integration

The 2026 6-inch Kindle is the most direct answer if access to Amazon’s Kindle ecosystem matters more than achieving phone-like dimensions. It is Amazon’s smallest current model, but it should be described accurately as compact and pocketable—not palm-sized. Check your local Amazon marketplace for the current listing, price, delivery date and exact generation before buying.

Consider a small-format third-party E Ink reader

Third-party small E Ink readers, including Xteink devices mentioned in current reporting and reader discussions, may offer a smaller physical footprint. The available material does not establish a specific model’s current availability, software support, price or ability to use Kindle books. Verify all of those points before choosing one.

Important comparison questions include:

  • Physical size: Is the device actually smaller than 6 inches, and can it fit the pocket or bag you use?
  • Display: Does the smaller panel remain comfortable for your typical font size and reading time?
  • Book transfer: Can it access Kindle purchases directly, or will you need supported file-transfer or conversion methods?
  • Ecosystem: Does it provide Amazon syncing, notes, dictionaries, accessibility features and library-management tools?
  • Availability: Are warranty service, replacement parts and software updates available in your country?

Device or category Screen information Other established details What it means
2026 basic Kindle 6-inch, 300 ppi glare-free E Ink 16 GB; USB-C; up to six weeks’ battery life (Amazon claims) Smallest current Kindle, but not a phone-sized reader
2026 aluminum Kindle 6 inches 32 GB (Amazon listing) More storage and a different back material, not a smaller display
2024 entry Kindle Compact entry model; exact screen size not stated in the cited historical announcement 158 g (Amazon announcement) Historical evidence that a compact model coexisted with larger Kindles
2024 Paperwhite 7 inches Larger-screen model Shows Amazon’s willingness to maintain a larger premium format
Small-format third-party E Ink readers Varies by model Current model, price, availability and Kindle compatibility not established here Potentially smaller, but requires model-by-model verification

What would change the outlook?

A credible expectation of a tiny Kindle would require an official product announcement, a confirmed listing from Amazon, or clear specifications for a new sub-6-inch model. Until that happens, the defensible position is simple: Amazon’s current smallest Kindle is 6 inches, and no mini Kindle timeline is public.
