“Sexbomb” was the name Space Engine Systems (SES) gave an uncrewed hypersonic demonstrator associated with ramjet development. SES president and CTO Pradeep Dass explained the name to Futurism in 2021 by saying the vehicle was “sexy” and that its kinetic energy at Mach 5 would make it act like a bomb if it hit something. That was Dass’s explanation—not evidence that the aircraft reached Mach 5. The flight details reported at the time were proposals, and the sources available here do not confirm that SEXBOMB ever flew.
Why did SES call it “Sexbomb”?
In an interview published October 25, 2021, Futurism reporter Tony Ho Tran quoted Dass, SES’s president and CTO: “The kinetic energy at Mach 5 is very high,” Dass said. “It will act like a bomb if [it] hits anything. It is sexy, so it is a sexbomb.” Read the Futurism interview.
The name therefore combined Dass’s description of the vehicle as “sexy” with his comparison of the kinetic energy of a hypothetical Mach 5 impact. His remark explains the name as he presented it; it does not establish that SEXBOMB achieved that speed, nor is it independent verification of the aircraft’s performance.
What was SEXBOMB supposed to be?
SES described SEXBOMB as an uncrewed drone and ramjet demonstrator. The company said it was intended to gather cooling and aerodynamic data relevant to its separate HELLO-1 concept, and it also raised the possibility of spinning the demonstrator off for defense applications. Those were company plans, not independently confirmed outcomes. SES’s January 2023 announcement said the vehicle was to move to Cornwall, UK.

SEXBOMB should not be confused with HELLO-1 or HELLO-1X. SES’s announcement treated SEXBOMB as the drone and HELLO-1 and HELLO-2 as separate proposed spaceplanes. In June 2023, Aviation Week reported on an optionally crewed hypersonic experimental aircraft called Hello-1X and said SES had dropped the SEXBOMB name. That report describes a program distinction and reported name change; it does not establish that either vehicle later flew. Read Aviation Week’s report.
Did SEXBOMB fly at Mach 5?
No completed SEXBOMB flight test or verified Mach 5 flight is confirmed by the sources cited here. Futurism’s 2021 article described SES’s proposed test plan: a balloon drop from 110,000 feet, followed by a target speed of more than 3,700 mph after engine start. It also reported that a test initially expected in 2021 had shifted to 2022 because of regulatory approval. These were historical plans and targets, not demonstrated results.

SES’s January 2023 announcement discussed moving the project to Cornwall and exploratory regulatory discussions. It said the company wanted to demonstrate flight within a supersonic corridor. A separate SES news item describes a proposed ramjet test, potentially released from an F-104 or another suitable aircraft, and says the initial plan involved a U.S. spaceport; the page has no visible publication year, so it cannot establish when that proposal was current or whether it proceeded. Read SES’s ramjet-test announcement.
SES’s About page lists company milestones and plans, but listed target dates are not proof that a milestone occurred. Taken together, the cited material documents proposals, approval dependencies, and later program statements—not a confirmed SEXBOMB flight, current certification, or present operational status.

Which speed and performance figures belong to SEXBOMB?
The often-repeated numbers are associated with the proposed test described by Futurism in 2021, not with a measured flight. The distinction matters because the same SES announcement also included payload figures for the separate HELLO-1 and HELLO-2 concepts; those figures are not SEXBOMB specifications.
