Some users reportedly saw an older-looking Google Search page in November 2025, but Google did not confirm that it was running an interface test. The “test” explanation came from reporting, while Google’s own November announcement described a separate effort to remove lesser-used Search features—not a return to an earlier design.
What users reported seeing
On November 13, 2025, PiunikaWeb reported that some people had recently encountered an older-looking Google Search interface. Its description included a classic-style Google logo, an older search bar and a more simplified results layout. The report said sightings were inconsistent and mentioned desktop and mobile use, as well as Chrome and Safari. Those observations were the outlet’s account, not a representative survey; it did not establish how many people were affected.
PiunikaWeb suggested the page might be part of an A/B test or a temporary holdback. That is a hypothesis, not a confirmed explanation from Google. The reporting did not establish the affected users’ geography, the exact duration, or what Google ultimately did with the interface. PiunikaWeb’s November 13 report is the source for the sightings and the test interpretation.
What Google officially said about simplifying Search
On November 5, 2025, Google Search Central said it was reviewing Search features and phasing out lesser-used ones that it considered to provide little value. The stated aims included simplifying the results page and improving speed. John Mueller, Search Advocate at Google Switzerland, wrote: “For most searches, you likely won’t notice a major difference — most of these features didn’t trigger often and weren’t interacted with much by users.”

That announcement explains a feature-removal policy; it does not say Google was testing an old-looking interface or rolling back its design. The two events are close in time, but the official post does not connect them. Read Google’s November 5, 2025 Search Central announcement for the stated scope of that policy.
A separate change affected seven structured-data displays
In a June 12, 2025 announcement, Google said it would phase out these structured-data types from Search results:

The change concerned certain visual enhancements in Search. Google said it would not affect page rankings or the use of the structured data outside Google Search and features that depend on it. Henry Hsu, Product Manager at Google Search, wrote: “This update won’t affect how pages are ranked.” This specific deprecation is not evidence that Google tested the older interface reported in November. Details are in Google’s June 12, 2025 post.
Why your Google results or page may look different
Google’s Help documentation lists several general reasons people can get different results or presentations: time, context, device, location, language, data-center rollout and personalization. These are possible sources of variation in Search generally; Google has not tied any of them to the November old-interface sightings. They therefore cannot establish why a particular person saw that page. See Google’s explanation of why results may differ.
