Sashi Esport announced an Asian VRS push on October 5, 2026, adding Australians Tynan “TjP” Purtell and Jordan “Hatz” Bajic while saying Mikkel “MistR” Thomsen and Casper “Cabbi” Jensen would step out of the starting lineup for a month. The move drew criticism as a temporary region change that could improve the team’s path to the PGL Singapore Major. The next day, HLTV reported that Valve had added a three-month regional-list condition that appeared to block recent switchers from using a new region for Major invites unless they reached a solution with Valve.
What Sashi announced
On October 5, Sashi Esport said it was adding Australian players Tynan “TjP” Purtell and Jordan “Hatz” Bajic to its active Counter-Strike roster. Its announcement said: “We’re taking a different route this time as we set our sights on the Asian VRS. Let’s see how far we can take it.” The organization also said Mikkel “MistR” Thomsen and Casper “Cabbi” Jensen would step out of the starting lineup “for the coming month.” Insider Gaming reproduced the announcement.
Contemporary coverage noted that Anton “Anlelele” Huynh had Vietnamese citizenship, a detail relevant to the roster’s regional assignment. The announcement’s explicit Asian VRS goal and the one-month lineup change made the switch look temporary to many observers. That appearance—not a publicly confirmed explanation of Sashi’s intent—was at the center of the criticism. HLTV reported on the roster change.
Why the move drew criticism
Critics framed the decision as a competitive-integrity and regional-representation issue: a European organization appeared to be changing the region it represented close to the Major invitation cycle to pursue what critics perceived as a less difficult qualification route. The month-long step-back by two established starters reinforced the impression that this was a short-term qualification play. Those were criticisms of the move, not a ruling that Sashi had broken the rules in force when it announced the change.

Sashi’s explanation
Owner and director Claus “D0KT0R3N” Nielsen told Dust2.dk that the regional idea had emerged only days before the announcement. He said he had only recently fully understood the significance of Anlelele’s Vietnamese passport, after the team had previously encountered that information in connection with Esports Nations Cup qualification. This is Nielsen’s account of the timing and decision-making. Dust2.dk published his explanation.

What Valve changed for Singapore Major eligibility
On October 6, HLTV reported that Valve amended the CS Major Supplemental Rulebook with this condition: “A roster is only eligible for a Regional Assignment if they did not appear in any other region’s VRS list in the preceding three calendar months.” HLTV said Valve clarified that the condition applied to Singapore Major invites, with the lookback measured from when invites go out—not from the start date of the Major. HLTV reported the rule text and Valve’s clarification.
In practical terms, a roster that appeared on a different region’s VRS list during the three calendar months before invitations are issued cannot receive a Major Regional Assignment in its new region under the reported rule. HLTV said teams that had recently switched regions were out of the Major run through those changes unless they reached a solution with Valve. The report does not establish that Sashi received such a team-specific solution.

| Question | Before the reported amendment | After the reported amendment |
|---|---|---|
| Recent appearance on another region’s VRS list | The October 5 announcement was made before the change was reported; the rule’s application to that move was not yet clarified in the cited coverage. | A roster is eligible for a Major Regional Assignment only if it did not appear on another region’s VRS list in the preceding three calendar months, according to HLTV’s report. |
| Scope of the restriction | Not established in the cited coverage. | HLTV said Valve’s clarification concerned Singapore Major invites; it did not describe a general ban on region changes for all event invites. |
| Possible team-specific resolution | Not stated in the cited coverage. | HLTV reported recent switchers would be out of the Major run unless they reached a solution with Valve; it did not report a resolution for Sashi. |
The distinction matters: the reported amendment concerns Major Regional Assignments, not every tournament invitation. Eligibility for non-Major events should not be inferred from this rule.
What the reported odds did—and did not—mean
Insider Gaming reported that VRS analyst Finn “Mischief” Farrer estimated Sashi had a 13.25% chance of making the PGL Singapore Major through the Asian VRS on October 5. That was a contemporaneous forecast, not an official Valve statistic or a final result. It also predates the October 6 rule amendment, so it should not be treated as an updated estimate of Sashi’s prospects under the new condition. Insider Gaming reported the estimate.

What remains uncertain
As reported on October 6, the three-month condition changed the Major implications of recent region switches, but HLTV’s account left open whether an affected team could reach an individual solution with Valve. The available reporting does not establish a Sashi-specific resolution. The rule’s implementation and any later team-specific decision could change the status, so readers should consult current tournament and roster reporting for developments after October 7, 2026.
