Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →In the current Sombra rework, Hack is no longer one of her main abilities. Blizzard’s stated rationale is that opponents being locked out of their abilities can feel frustrating and difficult to deal with, even though Hack also created moments Sombra players enjoyed. That tradeoff helps explain why some players may dislike the change, but the available discussion does not show how widespread that reaction is.
What changed in Sombra’s kit?
Blizzard’s current patch notes remove Hack from Sombra’s main abilities and describe a replacement debuff, Weaken, that halves an enemy’s damage and healing output. These details reflect the patch notes available on October 7, 2026; Overwatch balance updates can change a hero’s abilities later.
The notes also describe a separate interaction: if Sombra takes damage while hacking a health pack or deployable, that hack is interrupted, the ability is canceled, and a separate six-second cooldown is triggered. This is not the same as Hack being removed from her main abilities.
Why did Blizzard remove Hack?
The current patch explanation, as surfaced in search-result text, says most players found being unable to use their abilities jarring, frustrating, and difficult to deal with. It also acknowledges that the effect could create moments Sombra players enjoyed. This is a paraphrase of Blizzard’s stated rationale, not a verified direct quote from a named developer.

Blizzard’s earlier Director’s Take on the Sombra rework described Hack as one of Sombra’s strongest tools and discussed trying combinations of changes to find an approach that worked for both Sombra players and their opponents. That context matters: removing Hack changes not just balance, but also a defining part of how the hero disrupts a match.
Why might some Sombra players be upset?
Hack gave Sombra a way to disrupt opponents by temporarily denying their abilities. That could be satisfying for the player using it, while the opponent had fewer ways to respond during the lockout. Removing the ability addresses the frustration Blizzard describes, but it also takes away a distinctive form of tactical disruption that some Sombra players valued.

Some players in current discussions have lamented Hack’s removal and aspects of Sombra’s old playstyle. Those comments establish that some players object; they are anecdotal, not a representative poll. There is no cited statistic showing how many Sombra players oppose the change or whether most feel that way.

In the current patch notes, Weaken halves an affected enemy’s damage and healing output. It changes the kind of pressure Sombra applies: instead of relying on Hack to prevent ability use, the described debuff reduces an enemy’s effectiveness. The notes establish that effect, but do not quantify how it compares with Hack’s impact in matches.
