A cordless work light that dims or flickers may have a low battery, a battery that is not fully seated, or a model-specific temperature or fault condition. Charge it first, then check the light’s own indicator pattern and manual. Flickering does not have one universal meaning across brands or models.
Start with the battery and status indicator
Switch the light off and charge its battery fully using the method specified in its manual. Then turn it on and note whether the symptom remains and what the indicator lights do. Low charge is a documented cause on some models: the TROTEC PWLS 06-10 manual lists low battery charge as a possible reason for a dim or flickering light and recommends recharging. DEWALT’s DCL050 documentation says the light blinks twice and dims as its battery nears full discharge. These behaviors are model-specific, not universal. What the flashing pattern may mean
Do not assume that a flashing light means the same thing on every work light. Record the exact model and the indicator’s color, number of lights, and sequence, then compare it with that model’s manual.
Bosch WorkLight 18V-2100
Bosch’s manual distinguishes several patterns: a flashing outer LED indicates approximately 0–15% state of charge; a flashing middle LED indicates a fault in the cordless work light; and all LEDs flashing indicate that the battery or light is outside its operating temperature range. Other models
Indicator colors and sequences vary. A red-and-green flashing condition on the Milwaukee L4 SL550 is associated in its manual with checking that the battery is fully seated; it is not a general code for other lights. Milwaukee L4 SL550 manual.
Reseat a removable battery only as the manual directs
If your light uses a removable battery pack, switch the light off and remove and reinstall the pack according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Make sure it locks or seats fully. Do not force it, and do not assume that a battery is compatible just because it fits or has a similar voltage. Check the exact light’s approved battery platform and part number before considering a replacement.

If the light is hot, let it cool
Stop using a light that feels unusually hot or whose indicator reports a temperature condition. Let it cool in a safe place and follow the manual’s instructions before trying it again. Bosch identifies an out-of-range temperature indication on the WorkLight 18V-2100. Milwaukee’s L4 SL550 manual associates dimming with a solid red ring with possible overheating and says the ring remains solid until the tool cools. If the light will not charge
Check only the charging connections and components permitted by the manual for your model. For the TROTEC PWLS 06-10, the manual recommends trying another cable and power adapter and ensuring the Micro-USB port is clean and dry. When to seek service
If a full charge and manual-approved battery reseat do not resolve the dimming or flicker, follow the exact model’s troubleshooting instructions and contact the manufacturer or an authorized service provider. Avoid opening a sealed light or attempting an internal electrical repair: the cited manufacturer guidance supports external checks and service referrals, not a generic internal repair procedure.
