Samsung does not identify one universal cause for Samsung Notes crashes. Possible contributors include outdated software, low available storage or memory, background activity, unstable internet, or a temporary software problem. Start with updates and a restart, then try clearing the app cache. Before clearing app data, make sure important notes are backed up or synced: that step can erase information stored by the app.
Why Samsung Notes may keep crashing
A crash is a symptom, not a diagnosis. Samsung’s general troubleshooting guidance lists several possible app and device factors, but it does not establish which one is responsible for a particular Samsung Notes crash. It also does not identify a universal Samsung Notes bug, affected model, or app version.
Updates, available storage and memory, background activity, internet stability, and temporary software problems are reasonable areas to check. They are possibilities, not proof of the cause on your device. Try low-risk fixes first
1. Update Samsung Notes and your device
- Open the store where you installed Samsung Notes—Samsung’s U.S. guidance names Galaxy Store or Google Play Store—and check for an app update.
- Open Settings > Software update and install an available Galaxy system update.
- Open Samsung Notes again and check whether it still crashes.
Store availability and menu labels can vary by device and software version. Samsung recommends checking app and system updates when an app crashes.

2. Restart and check device load
- Restart your Galaxy phone or tablet.
- Close apps running in the background, then reopen Samsung Notes.
- Check whether storage is nearly full and free space if needed. On supported devices, Samsung also recommends using Device Care to manage memory and Samsung Members to run phone diagnostics.
These checks can help address general performance problems, but they do not show that low memory or storage caused your Notes crash. Samsung’s device performance guidance covers restart and memory-management steps.
3. Clear the Samsung Notes cache
Go to Settings > Apps > Samsung Notes > Storage > Clear cache, then reopen the app. Cache clearing removes temporary files; it is not the same as resetting app data. Samsung notes that exact menu steps may vary by software version. See its cache and data instructions.

Protect your notes before clearing app data
Before using Clear data, check Samsung Notes settings for the account and sync status if Samsung Cloud sync is available on your device. Samsung’s 2024 Galaxy Z Flip6 manual documents a Sync with Samsung Cloud control, but its presence in that manual does not establish that sync is available, enabled, or complete on every device. Do not assume every local or unsynced note is backed up. If you cannot verify that important notes are safe, do not clear app data yet.

This resets the app and removes its stored data and settings; you may need to sign in again. Samsung describes the reset, but does not promise it will fix a Notes crash. Refer to Samsung’s app-crashing guidance and its cache and data instructions.

If Samsung Notes still crashes
Check permissions and reinstall if available
Samsung’s general app-crash guidance includes checking app permissions and uninstalling and reinstalling an app where possible. Whether Samsung Notes can be removed, and the available menu options, varies by device and software version. Use the app’s store listing or Samsung’s support steps for the options available to your device.
Send a diagnostic report or contact Samsung
On supported Galaxy devices, Samsung Members can run diagnostics and submit an error report. If you contact Samsung Support, include your Galaxy model, Android and One UI versions, Samsung Notes version, when the problem began, and the steps that reproduce it. Samsung’s app-crash support page describes its support options.

Keep factory reset as a last resort
A factory reset affects the whole device, not just Samsung Notes, and deletes device data. Do not use it as an early troubleshooting step. Consider it only after a complete backup and careful consideration, preferably with Samsung Support’s advice. Samsung warns about data loss in its app-crashing and freezing guidance.

To learn which change helped, make one change at a time and reopen the same note or workflow. That makes it easier to tell whether the issue changed without taking several steps at once.
