The “Network cable disconnected” alert does not necessarily mean your Samsung TV has lost internet access. Some owners report seeing it while the TV is connected over Wi-Fi, but those reports do not establish a confirmed cause. First check whether the TV’s apps actually lose connectivity; then troubleshoot the wired connection, if you use one.
Does the alert mean your TV has lost internet?
Not by itself. The notification is user-reported both when a TV is using Wi-Fi and when connection and disconnection messages alternate. Those reports show that the warning can appear without an obvious Ethernet outage, but Samsung has not confirmed a universal cause for the Wi-Fi cases. They also do not establish how common the issue is. See the Samsung Community reports of the warning on Wi-Fi and reports of alternating cable messages.
When the banner appears, check whether internet-dependent apps or other TV features stop working. If they continue to work, the alert alone is not evidence of an internet outage. If they fail too, use the steps below to isolate the problem.
What to check, in order
- Check whether the TV is actually offline. Try an internet-dependent app or feature while the alert is visible. If the TV is using Wi-Fi and no Ethernet cable is attached, focus on Wi-Fi and router checks rather than buying or replacing a cable; the reports do not identify a confirmed fix for this case.
- If you use Ethernet, reseat the cable. Unplug and reconnect both ends: the TV’s LAN port or One Connect Box, and the router or modem. Inspect the cable for damage or a loose fit. Samsung recommends checking the cable and replacing it if necessary; test with a known-good cable before suspecting the TV. Some Samsung models do not support wired networking, so check your model’s specifications and instructions. Samsung’s network setup guide describes connecting the TV or One Connect Box to a router or modem. Its Cat 7 STP recommendation is regional guidance for the connection described there, not a universal requirement.
- Compare with other devices on the same network. Check whether a phone, computer, or another device can get online through the same router. If those devices also have trouble, the interruption may be with the router, network settings, or internet service rather than the TV. Samsung advises checking whether router settings have changed or are blocking the TV; for a broader network outage, follow your router provider’s or internet service provider’s guidance. - Run the TV’s network tools. Samsung provides instructions for testing the connection and resetting network settings. Menu names and paths vary by model and software version, so use the guide for your exact TV rather than assuming a universal sequence. A network reset is different from a factory reset: a factory reset can affect TV settings and should not be the first step for a popup that has not been tied to an actual outage. If firmware updates are available for your model, follow Samsung’s model-specific update instructions. Neither a reset nor an update is a guaranteed fix for a recurring warning.
- Escalate when a test points to a TV fault. If the wired connection still fails after checking with a known-good cable and testing the network, contact Samsung support with your model number and test results. A persistent network-adapter or MAC-address test failure after a factory reset is a stronger reason to seek service than the notification alone. Samsung’s Canada network troubleshooting page gives test and service guidance for the model identified on that page; steps may differ for other TVs.
Ethernet or Wi-Fi: which should you use?
Neither connection type is established as a universal cure for this warning. Choose based on what your TV supports and whether the alert corresponds to a real interruption:

When should you contact Samsung?
- Contact Samsung support if the TV continues to fail its network test after you have checked the connection and tried a known-good Ethernet cable, where applicable.
- Seek model-specific service guidance if the network-adapter or MAC-address test continues to fail after the factory-reset procedure Samsung specifies for your model.
- If multiple devices are offline, start with the router or internet provider rather than treating the TV alert as proof that the television needs repair.
