Usually, OBS is either playing a single file through a Media Source with its per-file Loop option enabled, or its VLC Video playlist is set to loop after reaching the end. First check which source type you added: the settings that control a single file are different from those for a playlist.
Identify the OBS source you are using
Right-click the source in OBS and open Properties. Check its source type and the controls shown there. OBS documents Media Source and VLC Video as separate sources with different playback controls (OBS Media Sources documentation).
Media Source: one file at a time
A Media Source plays a local media file. Its Loop setting determines whether that file starts again after it finishes. If you added only one episode as a Media Source and Loop is on, that episode will repeat; this source is not a multi-file playlist.
VLC Video: a list of media files
VLC Video is the OBS source for a list of media items. Its properties include Loop Playlist, Shuffle Playlist, and Visibility Behaviour. OBS documents Loop Playlist as on by default and Shuffle Playlist as off by default. The first means the list restarts after its media files have played; the second controls whether files play in random order or listed order.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Check the playlist and playback settings
- Confirm every episode is listed. In the VLC Video source’s Properties, inspect the playlist entries. If only one item appears, OBS has no other listed episode to play. Check that the intended files were added and that their paths point to the files you expect.
- Check the loop control for the source type. For Media Source, turn off Loop if you want its one file to stop at the end. For VLC Video, turn off Loop Playlist if you want playback to stop after the whole list finishes. The VLC Video default is on, so a list can restart unless you change it.
- Check Shuffle Playlist only if the order is unexpected. Turn it off to play files in listed order. Shuffle randomizes playback; it is separate from looping and does not, by itself, explain why a particular single episode repeats.
- Check visibility behavior if it happens after a scene change. VLC Video can continue, pause, or stop while hidden. OBS documents Stop when not visible, restart when visible as the default. If the source becomes hidden when you switch scenes, this setting can affect what happens when you return to it; it does not change the playlist’s shuffle setting.
If OBS plays only one file from the playlist
If you expected several episodes, verify that you are using VLC Video rather than a Media Source, then inspect the playlist itself. Confirm that every intended entry is present and that its file path is correct. Check Shuffle Playlist if the files appear in a surprising order, but do not treat shuffle as proof of why one episode repeats.
VLC must be installed for the VLC Video source. OBS specifies that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. This is a prerequisite if the source is missing or unavailable, not evidence that a bitness mismatch causes a particular episode to repeat.

When to investigate a bug
If the source type, playlist entries, paths, and relevant settings all look correct, collect the details needed to distinguish a configuration issue from a software problem: OBS version, operating system, source type, playlist paths, VLC version if you use VLC Video, and an OBS log. Avoid attributing the symptom to a current OBS defect based on an isolated older report.
For context, one user report describes OBS 27.2.4 on Windows 10 repeatedly playing one XSPF file from a directory (OBS forum report). That is a report about a specific setup, not proof that current OBS generally repeats cartoon episodes. OBS’s official documentation is the better reference for what the controls are designed to do; its source code also keeps loop, shuffle, and visibility behavior as distinct settings (OBS VLC Video source code).

Or let it run in the cloud
If the real goal is to keep uploaded cartoons or other recorded videos playing as a YouTube live stream, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option—not an OBS playlist fix. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded videos from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It streams the files as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot regardless of quality, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo, or start your free first day.
