If a new M.2 Wi-Fi card is missing from your computer, first check that the card’s interface is supported by the exact motherboard or laptop model. M.2 cards can fit a socket without being electrically compatible. Then check installation and hardware detection; only after the operating system sees the adapter should you focus on Wi-Fi settings and drivers.
Why an M.2 Wi-Fi card may not be detected
The M.2 label describes a connector and form-factor family, not a guarantee that every module works in every M.2 socket. The socket’s key, dimensions, electrical interface, system firmware, and platform support all matter. For example, Intel identifies the AX200 as a PCIe adapter and says it requires a compatible motherboard, BIOS, and M.2 port; its compatibility guidance names M.2 Key A or Key E as examples. Intel’s AX200 compatibility guidance was last reviewed September 15, 2023.
CNVi and CNVio modules have different platform requirements from standard PCIe wireless cards. A Key E socket alone does not prove that both types will work: some designs support both, while the ASRock N100M manual specifies CNVi support and says an M.2 PCIe module is not supported. Consult the documentation for your exact board or computer rather than relying on apparent connector fit. Intel’s CNVi compatibility guidance was last reviewed January 21, 2022.
Check compatibility before troubleshooting software
Identify the card and the computer
Write down the full model of the Wi-Fi card and the full laptop or motherboard model, including the motherboard revision if applicable. In the system’s manual or support pages, confirm the socket key and module size, supported bus or interface, and supported wireless-module types. Match the documentation to the exact system: a manual for a related board or product is not proof of compatibility.

Check platform limits
Intel advises checking compatibility with the motherboard, BIOS, and M.2 port, and recommends confirming support with the system manufacturer, vendor, or seller. Laptop upgrades may also be subject to manufacturer regulatory requirements. Do not assume a particular computer has a BIOS whitelist or that a card works universally; verify any restriction in model-specific documentation. Intel’s AX200 compatibility article covers these platform considerations.
Reseat the card and check its connections
If documentation confirms the card is supported, power down the computer and follow its service or installation instructions before opening it. Reseat the module in the correct socket and secure it as directed. Do not force a card into a socket that does not match its key or supported interface.

For a desktop adapter kit, check the RF leads and external antenna connections against the kit instructions. Intel’s desktop kit includes a card, two antennas, brackets, RF cables, and a guide; its stated requirements specify Key E 2230 and exclude Key M and Key B. That kit is a possible installation path only when the system supports its specifications. Intel’s desktop kit article was last reviewed March 11, 2020. Check whether the operating system detects the adapter
In Windows, open Device Manager and look for the wireless adapter. MSI includes checking Device Manager among its wireless troubleshooting steps. If the adapter is absent, installing a driver alone may not solve the problem: revisit interface and platform compatibility, seating, and hardware support first. There is no universal BIOS menu path for enabling an M.2 Wi-Fi card, so use the documentation for your specific system rather than following a generic BIOS instruction. MSI’s Wi-Fi troubleshooting guide is dated December 10, 2021.

If the adapter appears, check Wi-Fi and its driver
When the operating system lists the adapter, check that Wi-Fi is enabled and that your network equipment is working. Then install the wireless driver for the exact motherboard or computer model from its manufacturer. Use Intel’s driver package only if the adapter and system support it. MSI’s guide covers checking Wi-Fi status, device detection, network equipment, and the wireless-card driver: MSI Wi-Fi troubleshooting.

- Installation hardware: Determine whether you need RF cables, antennas, brackets, or other parts in addition to the module.
- Driver: Confirm that a suitable driver is available for your operating system and exact adapter.
An Intel AX200 M.2 2230 PCIe adapter is a possible replacement only for a system confirmed to support that model and interface. A complete desktop kit may suit systems that support its Key E 2230 configuration and included antenna setup; neither is a guaranteed fix for an unsupported socket.
