First check which Pokémon game you’re playing: in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, the Mewtwo reward is claimed through Mystery Gift over the internet—not by entering a Mewtwo code. The gift provides Mewtwonite X and Y, which unlock an extra side mission where you can encounter Mewtwo. A commonly mistaken code, GETY0URMEW, was for Mew in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, not Mewtwo, and its distribution ended in 2023.
Identify the game and the reward first
“Mewtwo code” can refer to different things. The fix depends on the game, how the reward is delivered, and what the reward actually is. The official Pokémon Legends: Z-A announcement describes an internet Mystery Gift for Mewtwonite X and Y—not a code that directly adds Mewtwo to your team.

Claim the Mewtwo reward in Pokémon Legends: Z-A
The official instructions, published December 2, 2025, say to claim Mewtwonite X and Y through Mystery Gift. They do not state a distribution end date.
- Connect your Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 to the internet and use a profile linked to a Nintendo Account.
- Make sure Mystery Gift is available. The feature unlocks after approximately one hour of play.
- Open the game’s Mystery Gift menu and select Get via Internet.
- Check the Mega Stones pocket for Mewtwonite X and Y.
- Complete the main story. Then go to Lysandre Café and start the extra Mewtwo side mission. Defeating Mewtwo adds it to your team.
These steps follow The Pokémon Company’s Mewtwo and Mega Stones instructions. If the game is asking you to type a code, verify that you selected the right game and reward instructions: this distribution is claimed over the internet.

If you are entering GETY0URMEW in Scarlet or Violet
GETY0URMEW was a password for receiving Mew, as Nintendo’s August 8, 2023 announcement specifies. The event ran through September 18, 2023, at 7:59 a.m. PDT, so that historical distribution is over. It was never a Mewtwo code.

- Open Poké Portal.
- Select Mystery Gift, then Code/Password.
- Enter the code for that specific promotion.
- After receiving a gift, save your game. You can also check Mystery Gifts to review gifts already received.
Nintendo’s instructions explain the Scarlet and Violet redemption process; they do not establish that an unspecified Mewtwo code is valid for either game. - Game: Confirm the code or gift is meant for the exact Pokémon title you opened.
- Promotion: Check the original source of the code and whether it describes a Mewtwo gift, an item, or a different Pokémon.
- Validity dates: Look for printed start and end dates or official terms. A code’s status cannot be determined from “Mewtwo code” alone.
- Error message: Record the exact wording, along with the game title and where you got the code.
Compare those details with the issuing promotion’s official terms or contact its official support channel. Without the game, error message, and code source, there is no reliable basis to say whether a particular code is expired, already used, mistyped, or otherwise ineligible.
