A NEAR token swap can stall at the quote, signing, submission, or settlement stage, and the right fix depends on the service you used. First identify whether the swap was made through NEAR Intents, Ref Finance, or another wallet or app. Keep the exact error message and any transaction hash or intent hash; those details help distinguish a missing quote from a submitted swap that has not settled.
Start by identifying the service and where the swap stopped
NEAR swaps do not all follow the same process. The NEAR Intents workflow described in the NEAR tutorial separates getting a quote, signing, publishing an intent, and checking its status. Ref Finance has its own transaction parameters and token-account prerequisites. A wallet signature by itself does not prove that a swap completed.
- Which app or protocol did you use: NEAR Intents, Ref Finance, or another service?
- Did you see a quote, sign a request, or submit a transaction?
- What exact error or status appeared? Save the transaction hash or intent hash if one was returned.
Use the matching service’s status tools and instructions. Do not assume a troubleshooting step for NEAR Intents applies to Ref Finance or another wallet.
If a NEAR Intents quote is missing or expired
A missing quote is not necessarily a wallet problem. The NEAR Intents tutorial says solvers may not return quote information within the quote window; if no quote is found, try requesting one again. A quote includes the proposed amounts, a quote hash, and an expiration time. Check that it has not expired before trying to sign it.

- Confirm that the input and output asset identifiers in the quote request match the tokens you intend to swap.
- If no quote appears, retry the request as the tutorial advises.
- If the quote has expired, request a fresh quote rather than treating the old one as current.
These steps apply to the documented NEAR Intents flow, not necessarily to other swap services.
If the input token or available balance looks wrong
For NEAR Intents, check the balance held by the Intents system, not just the balance shown in an external wallet or on another chain. The NEAR deposit guide explains how to find a token’s defuse_asset_id in the token list and query mt_batch_balance_of on intents.near for that asset. A zero result means the queried Intents balance is empty.

- Verify that you have the exact asset identifier for the token you plan to swap.
- Query the Intents balance for that identifier.
- If you are depositing a NEAR fungible token, follow the guide’s transfer-call deposit path, then check the Intents balance again.
A token visible in your wallet has not necessarily been credited to NEAR Intents. Confirm the service balance before treating it as available swap input.
If signing or first-use setup fails in NEAR Intents
In the tutorial’s documented Intents signing flow, the user’s public key must be registered with intents.near before the first intent message. The flow checks whether the key is registered and calls add_public_key if it is not. This is a first-use requirement for that documented flow, not a universal requirement for every NEAR swap.

Use the signing and key-registration steps in the official NEAR Intents swap tutorial. Never share a seed phrase or private key with support staff; signing a request does not require disclosing those secrets.

Use this branch only if Ref Finance was the service. Its SDK documentation says the account needs active storage for the input token; without it, a transaction can fail. Check that the input-token balance is sufficient and review the slippage-tolerance parameter configured for the swap.

The SDK documents slippage tolerance as a parameter but does not establish one universally appropriate value. Do not increase it blindly: check the setting and decide whether it fits your trade and risk tolerance.
If you signed or submitted but have not received the output
For NEAR Intents, use the returned intent_hash with get_status to check the intent. The tutorial identifies SETTLED as successful completion; inspect the associated transaction hash when one is provided.

If the input arrived through a foreign-chain deposit, check that deposit’s status separately from the subsequent swap. NEAR’s Intents FAQ describes deposit states including PENDING, FAILED, and COMPLETED. It says failed deposits are currently handled manually and eventually updated to completed, so a deposit that is not yet visible may need to be resolved before diagnosing the swap itself.
More generally, a successful signature does not guarantee that a transaction was transmitted or succeeded. NEAR’s Shade Agents documentation gives network congestion, an incorrect nonce, and insufficient gas as possible issues in that agent context. Those examples are not evidence that these are common causes of end-user token swap failures; they illustrate why signing and execution are separate events.
