If your cassette AC cools one part of a room better than another, first check its mode and setpoint, airflow, filter, and the room itself. Uneven cooling is a symptom with several possible causes—not proof of a refrigerant problem. Start with checks you can safely make from the room, follow your model’s manual, and contact qualified service if the problem persists or the unit shows an abnormal condition.
Why is my cassette AC not cooling evenly?
A ceiling cassette draws room air through an intake and sends conditioned air out through directional outlets. If airflow is restricted, or the outlets are pointed away from the area that needs cooling, air may not circulate evenly. Doors or windows, sunlight, and other heat sources can also make one part of a room feel warmer.
The pattern can help you describe the issue, but it does not identify the cause by itself:
- Weak airflow from the cassette: Check whether the intake or outlets are blocked and inspect the filter.
- Airflow feels normal but not cool: Confirm cooling mode and the setpoint, then see whether basic room and filter checks help.
- One area stays warmer: Consider outlet direction, blocked airflow, open doors or windows, and local heat or sunlight.
Manufacturer manuals list possible causes, but do not quantify how often each occurs or establish a single most likely cause. Uneven cooling alone is not evidence of a refrigerant leak.

Why is one side of my room warmer than the other?
Air from the cassette needs a clear path to circulate through the room. Furniture or other obstructions near the intake or discharge can interfere with that path. Louver direction also matters: use the remote or wired controller to aim the outlets as intended, according to your unit’s instructions. Do not force louvers by hand.
Control options and permitted louver positions vary by model. The Carrier QTD cassette manual warns, “Do not operate the unit with louver closed or narrow opening.” That is guidance for the cited model, not a universal instruction for every cassette; consult your own manual before changing louver settings. What can I check safely?
- Confirm the operating mode and setpoint. Use the controller to verify that the unit is set to cooling and that the target temperature is reasonable for the room.
- Clear the intake and outlets. Check that nothing is obstructing the cassette’s air intake or discharge. Use the controller to select the intended louver direction; follow the model’s instructions and do not move louvers by hand. - Inspect the air filter. A dirty or blocked filter is listed as a possible cause of poor cooling in manufacturer troubleshooting guidance. Clean and reinstall it only as your unit’s manual directs; cleaning methods and schedules are not the same for every model. See the GREE two-way cassette owner’s manual or SHARP DC Inverter cassette operation manual, as applicable to your unit.
- Reduce avoidable room heat. Close doors and windows and consider whether sunlight or heat-producing equipment is adding to the cooling demand. If the room is gaining heat while the unit runs, the system may struggle to maintain an even temperature.
- Observe what changes. If the problem remains, note whether airflow is weak, air does not feel cool, or a particular area stays warm. That description can help a technician, but it is not a diagnosis.
When should I call for service?
Consult the manual and contact qualified HVAC service if cooling remains poor after the basic checks, the unit displays a fault indication, or abnormal water leakage occurs. Possible refrigerant leakage, sensor or control faults, and internal repairs require qualified service. Do not open electrical compartments, adjust refrigerant, or attempt repairs inside the unit.
