A Gemini Enterprise Admin can enable usage audit logging, but access to the resulting records also requires the appropriate Logging permissions. Prompt and response text is included only if an administrator enables content logging; otherwise, sensitive text fields are elided. The exact records depend on the service path and request.
Who can see Gemini Enterprise usage logs?
Enabling usage audit logging and reading its records are separate permissions. Google’s usage-log guide identifies Gemini Enterprise Admin (roles/discoveryengine.agentspaceAdmin) as the role needed to enable logging, and Logs Viewer (roles/logging.viewer) as the role needed to access Cloud Logging. Access to the default _Default log bucket is also controlled by Logging permissions; Google identifies Logs Viewer, Private Logs Viewer, and Logs View Accessor among the roles relevant to that access.
These role names do not mean that every administrator can automatically read every prompt. What a person can see depends on their IAM grants, the bucket and log-view permissions in place, any field-level restrictions, and whether sensitive content logging is on.
Project-wide access versus access to one app or data store
Project-level IAM generally applies across Gemini Enterprise apps and data stores in that project. Resource-level policies can narrow access to particular apps or data stores, but broad project-level predefined roles can override those narrower policies. A user also needs access to both an app and the data store it uses. For connected systems that enforce document permissions, the source system’s ACLs continue to govern access to individual documents.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
These product access rules are distinct from access to Cloud Logging records. A person’s ability to use an app or view a source document does not, by itself, establish that they can read its usage logs. See Google’s granular access controls guidance for app and data-store scope.
What usage records may contain
Google’s usage-audit-log schema covers Search, Assistant, streaming Assistant, and conversational-answer service paths. It lists fields that may be recorded, not a guarantee that every app or request emits every field. Some fields are marked sensitive and depend on the content-logging setting.

| Service path | Examples of possible fields | Sensitive-content considerations |
|---|---|---|
| Search | Query text, user information, response attribution token, and result IDs | Query text is sensitive. In user information, time zone and precise location are marked sensitive; response attribution token and result IDs are not. |
| Assistant | Query text and parts; grounded answer text and grounding metadata; state, tokens, skipped-reason information, and agent metadata | Query text and parts, grounded answer text, and grounding metadata are sensitive. Grounding references are partly sensitive: most reference subfields are marked sensitive, with document and URI metadata as exceptions. |
| Streaming Assistant | Assistant-like request and grounded response content, agent specifications, and some model metadata | Selected agent input, context, instruction, and artifact fields are sensitive. Some model metadata is not; Google notes that this information may not describe a specialized agent receiving a handed-off turn. |
| Conversational answer | Query text, document chunk fields, identifiers, and model configuration fields | Query text and certain document chunk fields are sensitive; other listed identifiers and model configuration fields are marked not sensitive. |
The field classifications and examples above come from Google’s usage audit log schema. They describe possible record contents, not a promise that each listed value appears for every request.
When are prompts and responses included?
Prompt-input and response-output content is logged only when the corresponding content-logging setting is enabled. Google warns that enabling it can put sensitive data, including personally identifiable information (PII), into Cloud Logging. With the setting off, sensitive text fields are elided and other sensitive values are omitted.

Administrators can review this option in Gemini Enterprise’s observability settings. Treat it as a data-exposure decision: enable it only if the operational need justifies storing the content and Cloud Logging access is restricted to authorized people.
How to check your organization’s exposure
- Identify who can configure logging. Ask the Google Cloud administrator which principals have Gemini Enterprise Admin (
roles/discoveryengine.agentspaceAdmin) and can enable usage audit logging. - Check who can read the records. Review Logs Viewer and other applicable bucket, log-view, and field-level permissions, including access to the
_Defaultbucket. - Inspect the content-logging setting. Confirm whether prompt-input and response-output logging is enabled in the observability settings. If enabled, assume logged content may include PII.
- Review scope and inheritance. Check for project-level roles as well as resource-level app and data-store policies; a broad project role may grant access beyond a narrower resource policy.
- Check connected-source permissions separately. For connectors that enforce document ACLs, verify the source system’s permissions for end-user document access. Those controls do not replace Cloud Logging permissions.
Usage logs, observability, and audit logs are not the same view
Gemini Enterprise observability can include traces, spans, span logs, metrics, usage audit logs, and connector error logs. Traces and metrics help operators examine request flows and system behavior; connector error logs help investigate connector failures. Usage audit logs describe service requests and responses according to the schema and content-logging setting.

Cloud Audit Logs instead record administrative and access activity at the API-method level. Whether a method produces Data Access or Admin Activity logs depends on its permission type. Google’s audit-logging reference includes methods for analytics configuration and export. See observability settings and Gemini Enterprise Cloud Audit Logs for the respective record types.

Customer employees’ IAM permissions and Google personnel access are separate questions. Access Transparency can log actions by Google personnel involving customer content for qualifying configurations. Google documents exceptions, including resources that are global rather than multi-region, preview-feature data, and search analytics; it should not be treated as a record of every personnel access event in every deployment. Details are in Google’s Access Transparency documentation.

Google’s Gemini Enterprise FAQ says customer data—including prompts and outputs—is not used to train Google models or models for other customers. That statement addresses model training use; it does not determine which people in your organization can access Cloud Logging or its records.
