For everyday mixed use, start with Balanced. When battery life matters more, try Best power efficiency or Energy saver, then adjust screen brightness, refresh rate, and idle timers to suit your needs. For demanding work while plugged in, Best performance is an option, but it uses more power and may make the laptop run warmer.

These are Windows-level recommendations, not settings proven to add a particular number of hours or deliver a measured speed boost on Snapdragon X2 Plus. The exact controls depend on your laptop and Windows version.

Choose a power mode for the task

Open Settings > System > Power & battery and find the power mode control. Windows offers Best power efficiency, Balanced, and Best performance on supported systems. Pick the mode that fits what you are doing rather than treating one choice as the right setting for every situation.

Power mode When it fits Trade-off
Best power efficiency When you are unplugged and want to prioritize battery use. May favor efficiency over responsiveness for demanding work.
Balanced Everyday mixed use when you want a compromise. Does not prioritize either maximum efficiency or maximum performance.
Best performance Demanding tasks when power use is less important, especially while plugged in. Uses more power, can drain the battery faster, and may make the laptop run warmer, according to Microsoft.

Microsoft describes these modes as choices for balancing efficiency and performance; it does not publish an X2 Plus-specific measurement of their effect. If the mode selector is missing or the available choices differ, use the options shown on your own device. See Microsoft’s power-mode instructions.

When unplugged, reduce avoidable power use

In Settings > System > Power & battery, review Energy saver and the screen and sleep settings. Energy saver can reduce background activity. Shorter screen-off and sleep delays can also reduce power use when you are not actively using the laptop.

There is no universal timer that suits everyone: choose delays that fit your work, accessibility needs, and how often you step away. For a broader set of battery suggestions, see Microsoft’s Windows battery-saving tips.

Adjust the display without compromising comfort

Lower brightness to a level that remains comfortable and readable. A brighter screen uses more power, but setting it too low can make work difficult, particularly in a bright room.

If your laptop exposes a refresh-rate setting, a lower rate may save display power but makes motion less smooth. Dynamic refresh rate is available only on supported devices, and display controls vary by model. Check Settings > System > Display > Advanced display for the options your laptop provides; do not assume every X2 Plus laptop has the same controls. Microsoft explains the device-dependent options in its Windows 11 power settings guidance.

Find apps using battery before limiting them

Use the per-app battery usage view under Settings > System > Power & battery to identify apps that are using battery. Where Windows offers a background-activity control for an app, restrict it only if the app does not need to stay current when you are not using it. Some apps may not expose that control.

Startup apps are a separate consideration: disabling one can change whether it is ready when you sign in. Review the names before changing anything, and disable only items you recognize and do not need at sign-in. Windows lets you manage these through Settings or Task Manager; see Microsoft’s startup-app instructions.

Use per-app graphics settings selectively

On supported systems, Windows offers a Power saving graphics preference for individual apps. This is a targeted option, not a universal switch to apply to every program. Use it only when the setting appears for a specific app and the app’s workload is suited to that choice. Microsoft includes this control among its battery-saving suggestions.

What is specific to Snapdragon X2 Plus?

Qualcomm announced Snapdragon X2 Plus in January 2026 as a Windows 11 Copilot+ PC platform and said select OEM devices were expected in the first half of that year. On September 23, 2026, Microsoft announced a 12-inch Surface Pro and 13-inch Surface Laptop with the chip. Those announcements establish the platform and device context, not the battery or performance effect of changing Windows settings.
