Start with settings that fit your PC and symptoms: assign Siege to the high-performance GPU on a multi-GPU Windows 11 system, test windowed-game options only if crashes occur in windowed or borderless mode, and reduce competing background activity. For launch or anti-cheat errors, use Ubisoft’s targeted repair steps rather than disabling security protections.
Check that your Windows and graphics setup match Siege’s current PC requirements
Ubisoft lists 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11, plus DirectX 12, for Rainbow Six Siege on PC. Its minimum requirements include 8 GB of RAM and graphics cards such as the Radeon RX 5500 XT 4 GB, Intel Arc A380 6 GB, or GeForce GTX 1650 4 GB. Ubisoft’s recommended 1080p/60 High tier lists 16 GB of RAM and cards such as the Radeon RX 6600 8 GB, Intel Arc A750 8 GB, or GeForce RTX 2060 6 GB; an SSD is required for the listed 1080p tiers. These are published requirements, not a promise that a PC meeting them cannot crash. See Ubisoft’s system requirements.
Do not follow older advice to switch Siege to DirectX 11: Ubisoft says the DX11 executable was removed from PC, leaving DX12. Ubisoft’s older Vulkan article is historical context, not evidence that Vulkan is a current launch option. Ubisoft’s Operation Collision Point notes describe the DX11 removal.
Try the Windows setting most relevant to your hardware first
Assign Siege to the high-performance GPU on a Windows 11 multi-GPU PC
This is most relevant to laptops or desktops with both integrated and discrete graphics. Windows lets you set a per-app GPU preference; selecting High performance tells Windows which GPU to prefer, but does not prove that GPU selection caused the crash.

- Open Settings > System > Display > Graphics.
- Select Rainbow Six Siege in the app list. If it is not listed, add the game executable.
- Open the app’s Options, select High performance, and save.
- Restart the game and see whether the same crash recurs.

Test windowed-game optimizations only if the crash is tied to windowed or borderless play
Microsoft describes its Windows 11 windowed-game optimizations as a performance feature for compatible DirectX 10 and DirectX 11 games running windowed or borderless. Siege’s current PC executable is DX12, so that documented scope does not establish that the feature fixes Siege crashes. If the problem happens specifically in windowed or borderless mode, you can change the per-app option as a controlled test; restart Siege and revert the change if it makes no difference.

- Go to Settings > System > Display > Graphics.
- Select the game, open Options, and change the windowed-game optimization setting if it is available.
- Save, restart Siege, and compare behavior in the same display mode.
Reduce competing activity and check for software conflicts
Install Windows updates and review drivers
Microsoft recommends checking Windows updates and optional driver updates as part of general PC performance maintenance. Use Windows Update or the graphics-card maker’s official channel for drivers; without a version-specific issue report, no particular driver version can be called universally best for Siege. Microsoft’s steps are in its Windows performance guidance.
Close unnecessary apps and inspect resource use
Open Task Manager to identify processes consuming substantial CPU, memory, or disk resources. Close apps you are not using and disable unneeded startup apps, then retest Siege. Overlays, recorders, and other desktop apps may have their own startup or background controls. Windows’ background-app permissions do not control desktop apps, so changing those permissions should not be treated as a way to disable desktop overlays. Use Best performance only if power limits may be relevant
Windows’ Best performance power mode can let the CPU run at higher performance when needed, but Microsoft warns that it increases power consumption. On a laptop, that can mean faster battery drain and more heat. Treat it as a conditional power-management test for a power-limited system, not a proven crash-prevention setting.
Use a clean boot to isolate a background conflict
If simpler steps do not help, Microsoft’s clean-boot workflow starts Windows with essential drivers and startup programs so you can check whether background software is interfering with a game. Use it temporarily: if Siege behaves differently, restore normal startup and re-enable items methodically to identify the conflict. Follow Microsoft’s clean-boot instructions.

For an anti-cheat or launch error, use Ubisoft’s targeted steps
If the crash or failure points to Ubisoft Anti-Cheat, Ubisoft recommends verifying game files, repairing or reinstalling Anti-Cheat if it is corrupted, and checking whether security software is blocking it. Its instructions include adding the Ubisoft Anti-Cheat executable to Windows Security exclusions. Use that narrow exclusion only when troubleshooting a suspected block; do not turn off Windows Security globally or add broad folders without evidence. See Ubisoft’s Anti-Cheat troubleshooting guide.

For a useful diagnosis, change one setting, restart Siege, and check whether the same crash occurs before moving to another change. That makes it easier to identify what mattered and to undo a change that made things worse.

Avoid registry recipes, third-party “optimizer” utilities, overclocking, or replacing system files as generic crash fixes. Ubisoft’s BattlEye FAQ cautions against tweaked or custom system files, including DirectX. Use system-level modifications only when an authoritative diagnosis calls for them and you understand how to roll them back.
What these settings can—and cannot—tell you
Windows settings can correct a mismatched GPU preference, reduce competing resource use, or help expose a background conflict. They cannot establish the cause of every crash, and official guidance does not quantify how much any one Windows setting reduces Siege crash frequency. Ubisoft also says Adaptive Render Scaling is enabled by default on PC across graphics presets to improve frame-rate stability and performance consistency; that graphics behavior is not a crash-prevention guarantee.
