Meta Quest 3 is the best all-round choice for most new buyers, PlayStation VR2 is the right pick for a PS5 household, and a capable SteamVR headset is best for PC VR groups. The important catch is multiplayer availability: as of 30 October 2026, Steam PC VR and PlayStation VR2 can play together, while the native Quest version is limited to Quest players. Urban Wolf Games has completed internal tests across all three platforms and is targeting a unified build before the end of 2026, but that is a goal rather than a live feature or promised release date. A Quest owner who also has a suitable gaming PC can buy the Steam edition and join the existing PC VR–PS VR2 pool through PC VR streaming, including Steam Link.

Can Legendary Tales play across Quest, Steam and PS VR2 today?
Not in one three-way native session yet. The live arrangement on 30 October 2026 is:
- Steam PC VR ↔ PlayStation VR2: cross-play is live.
- Quest ↔ Quest: live in the native Quest build.
- Native Quest ↔ Steam PC VR: not live.
- Native Quest ↔ PlayStation VR2: not live.
That distinction matters more than display resolution when you are buying for a friend group. A Quest headset does not currently place you in a PlayStation party simply because the game exists on both stores.

Urban Wolf Games says it had to merge two Unreal Engine 4 projects and customise the engine. In its 23 October 2026 roadmap update, the developer wrote: We have successfully completed our internal cross-play tests between Steam PCVR, Quest, and PSVR2!
It also said, Our goal is to release the unified version of the original Legendary Tales across all three platforms before the end of this year, if everything goes well.
MIXED reported on 26 October that this was an internal milestone, not a public switch. Steam and Quest beta builds are planned, but no beta dates were announced.
Until that unified build is publicly available, choose the platform where your friends actually play. Treat the end-of-2026 target as conditional on bug fixes, stability work and PC VR performance, not as a guaranteed ship date.
Which headset is best for Legendary Tales with a mixed friend group?
Buy Meta Quest 3 if you want the most flexible standalone starting point. It runs the native Quest version without a gaming PC, supports online co-op with other Quest users, and gives you a path into the PC VR group if you later buy the Steam edition and have a suitable PC. It is also the higher-end choice between the Quest 3 and Quest 3S launch models.
That recommendation is about platform flexibility, not a claimed frame-rate or tracking advantage inside Legendary Tales. No publisher-backed study in the available evidence ranks Quest 3 against PS VR2 or a named SteamVR headset for this game. Quest launch coverage described visual cuts compared with PC VR and PS VR2, so PC VR remains the safer choice when maximum graphics headroom is the priority.
When should you choose PlayStation VR2?
Choose PlayStation VR2 when your household already owns a PS5 or your group is primarily on PlayStation. The PS5 version requires PS VR2 and its Sense controllers. PlayStation lists a 2 m × 2 m (6 ft 7 in × 6 ft 7 in) roomscale area, optional headset and controller vibration, and support for up to four online players with PS Plus. Online play is optional for solo play.
PS VR2 owners can already join Steam PC VR friends, which makes this the most straightforward console route for a group split between PlayStation and PC. They still cannot join native Quest players until the unified build is released. The game launched on PS VR2 on 8 February 2024.

When is a SteamVR headset the better buy?
Use SteamVR when your friends are on PC VR, you want the highest available graphics headroom, or you expect to host sessions. Steam describes Legendary Tales as VR-only with tracked-controller support, SteamVR standing or room-scale play, customisable graphics settings and compatibility with PC VR platforms generally. The store does not provide a named allow-list of Index, Vive or Rift models, so the practical rule is a compatible SteamVR headset paired with a Windows gaming PC that meets the requirements.

Steam’s minimum specification is Windows 10, an Intel Core i7-6700K or equivalent, 16 GB RAM and an NVIDIA GTX 1070 Ti or equivalent. The recommended specification is an Intel Core i7-10700K or AMD Ryzen 3800X or better, 16 GB RAM, and an NVIDIA GTX 2080 or AMD RX 6700 XT or better. The store specifically says: If you want to be a host for Co-op play, you must have good CPU such as i7-10700k or greater.
That makes processor capacity especially relevant for the person creating the lobby.
Steam lists the game at $39.99 USD. A captured Steam offer showed $29.99, 25% off, ending 2 November 2026; sale terms can change. Steam English reviews were 75% positive from 2,121 reviews in 2026. Steambase records Windows as the runnable operating system and says Steam Deck cannot run the game, so do not treat a Deck as a supported Legendary Tales client.
Are Quest 3S, Quest 2 and Quest Pro supported?
Yes, all four Quest 2, Quest Pro, Quest 3 and Quest 3S are currently listed as supported, but they are not equivalent buying choices. Quest 3 and Quest 3S were the launch focus in January 2026. Urban Wolf Games later announced official Quest 2 support on 13 February 2026 after performance testing, and Quest Pro is included in the current supported set.
Quest 3 is the sensible new standalone recommendation because it is the higher-end model in the 3/3S pair. Quest 3S is the budget launch sibling. Quest 2 and Quest Pro make the most sense for existing owners who want to avoid replacing hardware; Quest 2 is the oldest and lowest-resolution option in the official list.
The Quest listing supports roomscale, sitting and standing play and online multiplayer. A free Prologue build lets you check whether the physics-based combat feels comfortable before buying the full game. AltLab VR recorded a 4.4/5 rating from 239 ratings and a $39.99 USD price (36.99 euros) on 29 October 2026. The Quest install size mirrored by 5thScape GameVerse is 5.94 GB.

Native Quest players remain in the Quest-only multiplayer pool for now. Buying a Quest 3S instead of a Quest 3 does not change that rule.
Can a Quest owner play with PC or PS VR2 friends right now?
Yes, but only by using the Steam PC VR version rather than the native Quest client. You need a gaming PC that meets the Steam requirements, the Steam edition of Legendary Tales, and a way to stream PC VR to the Quest headset. MIXED specifically notes SteamVR USB Steam Link as an option. In that setup, the Quest is functioning as a PC VR headset and you join the existing Steam PC VR–PS VR2 pool.
- Check that the gaming PC meets at least the Windows 10, 16 GB RAM and GTX 1070 Ti-class minimum, with a stronger CPU preferred for hosting.
- Buy or install the Steam version on that PC. This is a second purchase if you already own only the Quest version.
- Connect the Quest for PC VR streaming, using a suitable wired or wireless method such as Steam Link.
- Launch the Steam build, invite your PC VR or PS VR2 friends, and confirm that everyone is using the same current game version.
This is a workaround, not native Quest cross-play. It also shifts image quality, latency and stability onto the gaming PC and network connection, so it is less convenient than the standalone version.

Legendary Tales supports up to four online co-op players. Its core loop is a VR-only dark-fantasy dungeon crawl with physics-based melee, parries, magic, loot, crafting and a skill tree. UploadVR described more than 15 hours of content and compared the combat structure with a Dark Souls-style dungeon crawl.
For a group, prioritise these requirements:
- Compatible platform: Steam PC VR, PS VR2 or Quest hardware listed above.
- Internet access: online co-op requires an internet connection; solo play may be possible without joining a session, but the available store evidence does not promise a fully offline mode.
- Controllers: PS VR2 requires PS VR2 Sense controllers; Steam requires tracked controllers; Quest uses its supported Quest controls.
- Play area: PS VR2’s official roomscale guidance is 2 m × 2 m. Quest and Steam support roomscale, standing and, on Quest, sitting modes.
- Host capacity: Steam’s own note calls for an i7-10700K-class CPU or better for a co-op host. This warning applies to the PC VR host, not to a Quest or PS5 session.
How do the graphics and content differ by platform?
PC VR offers the broadest graphics settings and the most hardware headroom. Quest launch coverage noted visual reductions compared with PC VR and PS VR2, which is the normal trade-off for standalone convenience. There is no reliable, publisher-backed frame-rate table proving that one named headset performs better than another inside this game, so avoid choosing on invented FPS figures.
The base game is sold for $39.99 USD on Steam and Quest, with the Steam price temporarily captured at $29.99 during a 25%-off offer ending 2 November 2026. The permanent Steam and PS VR2 price had been reduced from $54.99 to $39.99, according to UploadVR citing Urban Wolf Games in December 2025.

Dawn of History is a separate expansion. Steam lists it at $19.99, with a captured 15%-off price of $16.99, and Steambase dates the Steam DLC to 24 March 2026. PlayStation lists it at $19.99. The expansion adds new maps and enemies including Fallen Warrior, Nangdo and Succubus, plus Book and Staff weapons, rings, five legendary weapons, Seals and a potion quick slot.

Do not assume that DLC parity already exists on Quest. Urban Wolf Games’ 23 October Quest post said, Cross-Play & DLC are Coming to Quest
; the available evidence does not confirm Dawn of History as shipped in the Quest store. A Roguelite DLC is also in development with no date, and the studio wants it to support cross-play.

What happens when the unified build arrives?
The studio’s stated goal is one version of the original game across Steam, Quest and PS VR2 before the end of 2026, subject to testing. The planned sequence includes beta builds through Steam and the Quest beta channel, but no public beta date has been announced. The October roadmap should therefore guide your expectations, not determine a purchase on the assumption that a particular week will unlock cross-play.
Urban Wolf Games also said it is developing official Steam Frame support. That is not a current way to play and has no announced release date. Voice spellcasting in nine languages—English, Korean, Japanese, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Polish and Brazilian Portuguese—was described as being tested rather than confirmed as a current public-build feature.
