Start with comfort and visibility, then tune camera control: check motion effects, adjust FOV if the game offers it, set look sensitivity for your input device, review controls and accessibility options, and finish with readability and brightness. Change one setting at a time and test it in play; there is no reliable sensitivity number or universal preset for every game, platform, and player.
1. Reduce camera effects that hurt comfort or combat tracking
Look for motion blur, camera shake, bobbing or sway, and stabilization options. Turn down only the effects that make you uncomfortable or obscure enemy movement. Xbox Accessibility Guideline 117 recommends avoiding effects such as camera shake, camera bobbing, and motion blur, or providing an option to turn them off: Microsoft Learn: Xbox Accessibility Guideline 117.
These are options to check, not effects every player must disable. Some games’ stabilization settings can reduce discomfort while also reducing combat animation, as described in Bethesda’s Indiana Jones accessibility guide: Bethesda: Indiana Jones accessibility options. If an effect helps you read movement or enjoy the camera, keep it.
2. Adjust FOV gradually, if it is available
Field of view (FOV) changes how much of the scene appears at once. A wider view can expose more of the surroundings, but may introduce distortion or affect performance; a narrower view can reduce the “fishbowl” look and may feel more comfortable to some players. Bethesda describes these tradeoffs for Indiana Jones, but that game-specific guidance does not establish a best value for Soulslikes: Bethesda: Indiana Jones accessibility options.

Move the setting a little, then check whether you can see threats around you without making the image feel distorted. If the game lacks an FOV control, do not assume another graphics setting provides the same adjustment. Options can depend on the title and platform; Bethesda notes that some Oblivion Remastered graphics settings are limited by platform, monitor, and graphics card: Bethesda: Oblivion Remastered graphics settings.
3. Set camera sensitivity using your actual input device
Do not copy a sensitivity number from another game or player as a default. Camera response depends on the game’s own settings, the input device, and personal preference. Start near the existing setting, make a small change, and test both a quick turn and controlled tracking of a moving target. If you overshoot, reduce sensitivity; if turning feels sluggish, increase it slightly.

Settings may interact. Documentation for the community-made Elden Ring First Person Souls mod says its first-person camera sensitivity is also affected by the game’s input sensitivity setting. That is evidence about the mod, not an official FromSoftware feature or a rule for other games: Elden Ring First Person Souls mod.
4. Review controls and accessibility options
Before committing to a control layout, check whether the game lets you remap actions or choose between holding and toggling a control. Also look for options that reduce repeated presses or make an input easier to sustain. These features vary by game; Ubisoft’s Far Cry 6 accessibility overview is an example of available remapping, hold/repeated-press, and motion-reduction options, not a promise that every Soulslike includes them: Ubisoft: Far Cry 6 accessibility features.

Choose the layout and assistance that let you act reliably. A hold or toggle choice is a preference, not a competitive advantage that applies to everyone.
5. Make text readable and calibrate brightness
Check subtitles, captions, subtitle backgrounds, and UI or font scaling. Increase text size or add a background if dialogue and menus are difficult to read against the scene. Bethesda’s Indiana Jones guide and Ubisoft’s Far Cry 6 overview document examples of these kinds of options; the exact controls depend on the game: Bethesda: Indiana Jones accessibility options and Ubisoft: Far Cry 6 accessibility features.

If the game offers a brightness calibration screen, follow its on-screen example rather than relying on a universal brightness number. For instance, Bethesda’s Oblivion Remastered instructions describe adjusting brightness until a symbol is barely visible; that instruction applies to that game’s test, not every display or title: Bethesda: Oblivion Remastered graphics settings.

- Open the specific game’s settings and identify which camera and accessibility options it actually provides; names and availability differ by title and platform.
- Change one setting by a small amount, then play a familiar area or encounter long enough to judge comfort, target visibility, and control precision.
- Keep the change only if it helps. If it makes tracking, comfort, or performance worse, restore the previous value before testing another option.
This approach is more dependable than a copied preset: the evidence does not establish a universal first-person Soulslike setting standard or validated best-value camera sensitivity or FOV.
