On a new Primebook, first confirm which model and PrimeOS version you have. Then complete setup and updates while online, set a screen lock, and review app permissions. After that, adjust keyboard language and controls, multitasking, and the home screen to suit your routine. The available features and menu labels differ by generation, so use the settings on your own device rather than assuming every Primebook has the same options.
1. Confirm your Primebook model and PrimeOS version
Start by identifying the exact model; settings and hardware features are not identical across generations. Primebook’s FAQ lists the first-generation Primebook WiFi and Primebook 4G as Android 11-based PrimeOS devices. Primebook 2 Neo, 2 Pro, and 2 Max use Android 15-based PrimeOS 3.0, according to the Primebook FAQ.
That distinction matters when following setup advice: a feature or menu path documented for one generation may not appear on another. If a control mentioned below is missing, search Settings on your device or consult information for your specific model instead of assuming something is wrong.
2. Finish setup and check for updates while online
Connect to the internet during initial setup and when checking for updates. Primebook says a connection is needed for setup and updates, as well as app downloads, browsing, and features that depend on online services. After setup, many everyday tasks and apps that support offline use can still work without a connection; offline capability depends on the app and task. See Primebook’s FAQ.

3. Set a screen lock and review app permissions
Choose a PIN or password
Set a screen lock so someone cannot casually access the device if it is left unattended. Primebook confirms that PrimeOS supports both a PIN and a password. Pick the option you can reliably remember and enter; the available information does not establish one as best for everyone. Look in Settings for the screen-lock controls, since the exact menu wording can vary.
Check what apps can access
Review app permissions for access to location, camera, and storage. Keep access an app needs to do its job, and revoke permissions that are not necessary for its function. Primebook says these controls are in Settings, as on Android devices generally; the exact screen names may differ by build. These recommendations are based on Primebook’s FAQ.

4. Make typing and navigation comfortable
Set the keyboard language
If you type in more than one language, check the keyboard-language options before you start relying on the laptop for regular work. Primebook’s official PrimeOS walkthrough, posted May 25, 2024, covers changing keyboard language. The precise control names can vary by PrimeOS build, so use Settings search or the equivalent keyboard controls on your device.
Learn the shortcuts and tune input behavior
PrimeOS supports keyboard shortcuts, keyboard and trackpad input, right-click, a desktop-style taskbar, and resizable windows, according to Primebook’s FAQ and walkthrough. Try the shortcuts relevant to your usual tasks, then adjust available keyboard and trackpad controls to match how you work. The sources do not document one complete, universal settings path for these controls, so do not assume a particular menu route applies to every model.

Change keyboard backlight timeout if the setting is available
If your Primebook has a backlit keyboard and exposes this control, a Primebook administrator gave the path Settings → PrimeOS Settings → Keyboard Backlight Timeout and said the default timeout is 30 seconds. The administrator also said the setting can be changed to “Never.” This is a model-dependent forum answer, not a confirmed universal menu path: check whether the option exists on your device before relying on it. 5. Personalize the home screen and check essential apps
Arrange the home screen around the apps you use most. Primebook’s official walkthrough covers home-screen customization and finding apps. Before depending on a particular app for work or study, confirm that it is available and suitable on your device. The Prime App Store has an app-request feature, but app availability varies; a request option does not guarantee that a specific app is offered.

6. Check display options for your generation
Do not buy or choose a cable based on advice for a different Primebook generation. Primebook says first-generation devices support a wired external display through HDMI. Primebook 2 devices use wireless casting and do not have dedicated wired display ports; 4K external-display support is not currently available on Primebook 2 hardware. PrimeOS keymapping lets users map keyboard and mouse actions to touch controls in games, according to Primebook’s FAQ. If you play games that benefit from those controls, explore keymapping after the core setup. If you do not, there is no need to spend time configuring it.
