For a new PS5 player who wants the expansion, buy Complete Edition. It combines the PS5 base game with Burning Shores and the documented digital bonuses. Choose Standard if you only want the main story, or if you are buying a PS4-compatible copy. Digital Deluxe adds cosmetic, in-game and digital extras, but PlayStation’s documented bonus list does not include Burning Shores. Existing PS4 owners should check the free PS5 upgrade they already qualify for before purchasing another bundle.
The important distinction is expansion ownership, not the word “Deluxe.” Complete is the edition that explicitly includes the story expansion. The US PlayStation Store listings and support documentation can differ by platform and region, so verify the exact listing shown for your account before paying.

| Standard | Players who want the base story only | Base game; Burning Shores is not listed | Current price varies by listing; no fixed current US price established here | PS4 and PS5 listings; PS4 purchase can qualify for a PS5 upgrade | Nov 2026 |
| Digital Deluxe | Players who want bonus outfits, weapons and digital collectibles | Two outfits, two weapons, resource pack, Machine Strike piece, Photo Mode items, art book, soundtrack and comic; Burning Shores is not documented | Current US purchase availability and price should be checked in the store | PlayStation digital edition; verify the exact regional listing | Nov 2026 |
| Complete | First-time PS5 or PC buyers who want the main game and expansion | Base game plus Burning Shores and overlapping bonus categories | $59.99 was the announced PS5 launch price in 2023, not a guaranteed Nov 2026 price | PS5 on the US console listing; separate PC Complete Edition | Nov 2026 |
Contents and platform notes are based on the US PlayStation Store edition selector and PlayStation’s official support article. “Checked Nov 2026” identifies the review date for this buying guide; prices can change after that date.

Standard is the base game, Digital Deluxe adds listed extras, and Complete adds the Burning Shores expansion. That one distinction answers most buying questions. The extras in Digital Deluxe and Complete are not a substitute for the expansion: the documented Digital Deluxe list does not include it.

Standard Edition
Standard contains Horizon Forbidden West itself. The US store presents both a PS4-and-PS5 Standard listing and a PS4 Standard listing that advertises a digital PS5 upgrade. Neither Standard listing includes Burning Shores. If your priority is Aloy’s main campaign and you do not yet know whether you want the post-game expansion, Standard avoids paying for optional cosmetics and digital media.
Be careful when selecting a listing. A PS4 Standard purchase and its PS5 upgrade remain a base-game purchase; they do not silently convert into Complete Edition and do not grant the expansion.
Digital Deluxe Edition
PlayStation’s support documentation lists two special outfits, two special weapons, a resource pack, an Apex Clawstrider Machine Strike piece, a Photo Mode pose and face paint, a digital art book, a digital soundtrack and The Sunhawk digital comic. These are the reasons to choose Deluxe over Standard: customization, a small set of in-game items and digital companion material.
Recommended Free Tools
The same documentation does not list Burning Shores. Treat “Deluxe” as a bonus-content label, not as a synonym for “includes all story content.” The US store selector inspected on October 30, 2026 did not display a separate Digital Deluxe buying option. That observation is not proof that the edition has been discontinued; it means a new US buyer should not assume the edition is currently purchasable without checking the live listing.
Complete Edition
The US PS5 Complete listing explicitly bundles the PS5 base game and Burning Shores. It also lists bonus outfits, weapons, a resource pack, Photo Mode items, a Machine Strike piece, digital art, the comic and the soundtrack. The precise entitlement labels can vary between listings, so use the official contents shown at checkout rather than assuming every bonus is technically identical across platforms.

Complete is the clearest all-in-one purchase for a first-time PS5 player who wants the full story path. A separate Complete Edition was released for PC on March 21, 2024; the PC product is a distinct platform purchase, not a license automatically shared with a PlayStation copy.
Does Digital Deluxe include Burning Shores?
No—not according to PlayStation’s documented Digital Deluxe contents. The support list names outfits, weapons, resources, Machine Strike and Photo Mode items, plus the art book, soundtrack and comic, but does not name the expansion.
Burning Shores continues the story after the main quest is completed. If the expansion is your deciding factor, select Complete or buy the expansion separately for a compatible base-game entitlement. Do not infer expansion ownership from the presence of the word “Deluxe” or from the inclusion of digital soundtracks and comics.
Is Complete Edition available on PS4?
The US Complete listing is a PS5 edition, not a PS4 Complete package. The original game runs on PS4, and PS4 owners can receive a PS5 digital upgrade under PlayStation’s upgrade terms, but that does not make the US Complete listing a PS4 edition.
A PS4-only player should choose a Standard PS4 listing. If you later move to a disc-drive PS5, you can use the qualifying upgrade route and then decide whether purchasing Burning Shores separately is better than buying another bundle. The PC Complete Edition is separate again and should not be treated as a PS4 option.

Can I buy the PS4 disc and upgrade for free?
Yes, with an important hardware condition. A qualifying PS4 digital purchase can receive the PS5 digital version at no extra cost. A qualifying PS4 disc can also receive the upgrade, but only on a PS5 with a disc drive. PlayStation states: “You will need to keep the disc inserted each time to play the game.”
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Confirm the disc type. It must be the PS4 game disc, not a soundtrack disc or a package that contains only a download code.
- Use a disc-drive PS5. A disc-free PS5 cannot read the PS4 disc and therefore cannot validate the disc-based upgrade.
- Redeem or download the PS5 version. Follow the upgrade prompt associated with the PS4 disc or digital license while signed in to the account that owns it.
- Keep the disc available. Insert it whenever you launch the upgraded game; the disc is the ownership check.
- Buy the expansion separately if needed. The free upgrade covers the base game, not an automatic Complete upgrade or Burning Shores entitlement.
This route is often the most economical way for an existing PS4 owner to reach the PS5 version, but compare the current expansion price with the live Complete listing before purchasing. A historical store price should not be treated as a current guarantee.
Do I need Complete if I already own the game?
Usually not. First verify whether your PS4 digital or physical copy qualifies for the no-extra-cost PS5 upgrade. Then compare the separately sold expansion with Complete. Buying Complete can still be simpler if its current price is close to the expansion plus the base game you already own, but the bundle does not provide a special automatic conversion of your existing license.
For a physical PS4 owner, factor in the disc-drive requirement and the need to insert the disc every time. A disc-free PS5 owner cannot use that upgrade path, so the practical choices are a digital entitlement or a platform-appropriate new purchase.
Which edition has the DLC?
Complete Edition has the DLC in the box: it explicitly includes Burning Shores. Standard does not list it, and Digital Deluxe’s documented bonus list does not list it. On PC, select the separate PC Complete Edition if you want the expansion bundled with the base game.

The expansion becomes available after the main story’s required progression, so do not expect it to appear as a separate opening campaign immediately after installation. Your base-game platform and account region also determine which purchase options are shown.
What physical editions can you buy?
The most straightforward physical route is a PS4 game disc. It gives you a documented path to the PS5 digital upgrade when used with a disc-drive PS5, subject to the disc remaining inserted. This is different from a physical-looking collector package that contains only a download code.
PlayStation describes the Special Edition SteelBook as including a physical PS4 or PS5 disc. Collector’s and Regalla packages include game download codes despite their physical collectibles, so do not classify those packages as disc editions. Check the box contents carefully before buying second-hand or importing from another region.
A Seagate Horizon Forbidden West Limited Edition Game Drive is an optional storage accessory, not a game edition. Its manufacturer says PS4 games can be played directly from the drive, while PS5 games are archived there and must be transferred back to internal storage to play. It does not add the game, the expansion or a license to your account.
How should you choose? A ranked decision guide
- Choose Complete for a new PS5 buyer who wants everything. You get the PS5 base game, Burning Shores and the documented bonus categories in one listing. This is the least ambiguous route when the expansion is part of your plan.
- Choose Standard for the main story only. It is the sensible choice when you want to control spending, are buying for PS4, or are undecided about the expansion and digital extras.
- Choose Digital Deluxe only when its extras matter to you and the listing is available. The outfits, weapons, resource pack, Machine Strike piece, Photo Mode items and digital media are its selling points; it does not replace Complete for expansion access.
- Existing PS4 owners should upgrade before rebuying. Check the free PS5 entitlement, confirm whether your console has a disc drive if you own a physical copy, then compare the expansion and Complete prices shown in your region.
How we picked
The recommendations follow four evidence-based criteria: whether the base game is included, whether Burning Shores is explicitly included, which bonus categories are documented, and whether the platform and upgrade conditions match the buyer’s hardware. No popularity, sales or performance ranking is implied.

What dates and prices are safe to rely on?
Guerrilla announced a $59.99 US PS5 Complete Edition price for its 2023 launch and released that console edition on October 6, 2023. That is a dated launch announcement, not a promise of the price in November 2026. Guerrilla announced the PC Complete Edition for March 21, 2024.
Digital storefront prices, discounts and regional availability can change. Use the live US store page to confirm the amount, platform, tax treatment and included items immediately before checkout. The edition selector’s failure to show Digital Deluxe on October 30, 2026 should be read as a listing-status observation, not as proof of permanent delisting.
How do saves and platform changes work?
PlayStation provides a PS4-to-PS5 save-import procedure for this game. Follow that console-specific guidance when moving from PS4 to PS5. Do not assume that the same save files transfer to PC: the available instruction establishes a PlayStation console procedure, not cross-platform PC compatibility.
Before switching editions, sign in to the account that owns the original license and confirm the save location. Physical-disc upgrades still require the original disc for launch validation even after the PS5 version is installed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I buy Burning Shores by itself?
The US store supports a separate expansion purchase for owners of a compatible base game, but the amount and availability shown can change. Check the expansion’s live product page and make sure your base-game license is on the same platform and account.
Does a PS5 Complete purchase give me a PC copy?
No cross-platform license is established by these edition listings. PlayStation Complete and PC Complete are separate platform products, so purchase the version that matches the device you will use.
Are collector editions physical discs?
Not necessarily. Special Edition SteelBook includes a physical PS4 or PS5 disc, while Collector’s and Regalla packages are described as including game download codes despite their physical collectibles.
