After a One UI Watch update, check which software is actually installed, then review permissions, notifications, Tiles, health features, and your personal display and battery preferences. These are precautionary checks—not evidence that an update reset settings or changed battery life. Samsung says update details can vary by model, country, and service provider.
1. Confirm the installed watch software and update apps separately
First, note the watch model and installed build so you can compare like with like. An official Samsung English update notice for Galaxy Watch8 model SM-L320 lists build L320ZCS2AZF4, Android version B(AndroidWear 6.0), a release date of July 6, 2026, and security patch level 2026-07-05. Samsung describes that entry as a security improvement and warns that update details may differ by model, country, and service provider. It is a dated example for that listing, not a guarantee that it is the latest build for every watch: Samsung’s Galaxy Watch8 SM-L320 update notice.
- Check the system update: On the watch, wake the screen, open the apps list, then go to Settings > System > About > System updates. Review the installed software information and check for an available update.
- Check app updates separately: Open Play Store on the watch, choose My Apps, and install listed updates.
These are Google’s general Wear OS paths; Google cautions that steps can vary by manufacturer, device, and software version. If the labels differ on your One UI Watch build, use Samsung’s corresponding menus. Samsung’s update notice advises owners to “keep your device up to date and regularly check for software updates.” Google’s Wear OS update instructions.
2. Inspect permissions for apps you rely on
Open Settings > Apps > Permission manager on the watch and review permissions for apps whose behavior matters to you. Pay particular attention to location, health, microphone, and notification-related access. The Galaxy Watch8 user guide documents the permission manager, but does not say an update automatically changes permissions; treat this as a review, not a restoration step. The guide also lists App list, Choose default apps, Health platform, and Samsung app updates. Galaxy Watch8 user guide.

3. Recheck which phone notifications appear on the watch
In the Galaxy Wearable app on your phone, go to Watch settings > Notifications > App notifications. Check which apps are enabled, then decide whether you want alerts on the watch only while the phone is inactive or on both devices. Those are preference choices, not proof that an update changed your notification setup. Android Central’s Galaxy Watch8 settings walkthrough.
4. Check Tiles, Now Bar, and notification presentation
Galaxy Watch8 launched with Wear OS 6 and One UI 8 Watch. Samsung describes Multi-Info Tiles, which can show more than one kind of information in a view, along with Now Bar and depthless notifications. After an interface update, check that the information you use most is still quick to reach—such as Health, Fitness, weather, or calendar details—and that notifications are presented in a way you can use. Do not assume every third-party app can be added to a Multi-Info Tile. Samsung Galaxy Watch8 Series announcement.

5. Match display and health-tracking settings to your priorities
Review always-on display, screen timeout, and wake gestures, then decide whether their convenience suits your routine. You can also revisit health-tracking choices in light of what you want the watch to monitor. Samsung’s cited SM-L320 release note does not announce a Galaxy Watch8 battery-behavior change, and the available official material does not establish a universal post-update battery effect or one best configuration. A settings review can help you understand your own setup, but it is not evidence that an update caused extra drain.
6. Check relevant Samsung Health features
If you used them before, look in Samsung Health for Bedtime Guidance, Vascular Load, Running Coach, or Antioxidant Index. Samsung announced these as One UI 8 Watch health features associated with the Galaxy Watch8 series, but support and availability can depend on the device, region, and software or app support. If a feature is absent, that does not by itself mean a setting needs to be restored. Samsung Newsroom US announcement, June 16, 2025.

7. If an update stalls, try a network retry first
Google says Wear OS updates may install overnight while the watch is charging, powered on, and connected to Wi-Fi. If an update will not complete, use this low-risk retry sequence:
- Verify that the watch is connected to Wi-Fi.
- Temporarily turn off Bluetooth.
- Retry the update.
