What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Short answer: no documented BG3 console command is established as safe for use on a live campaign save. Larian’s documented Ctrl+Shift+F11 debug console belongs to the Baldur’s Gate 3 Toolkit editor, not the normal game. For campaign experimentation, Script Extender is a separate third-party option, but it carries build-compatibility, platform, mod, and achievement considerations. Use a backed-up, disposable save for any experimentation.
Are BG3 console cheats safe to use?
There is no official per-command safety list confirming that a cheat can be run in a normal campaign without affecting story state, inventory, character progression, combat, achievements, or save integrity. Larian’s Toolkit documentation lists editor debug commands; it does not promise that they work safely on player campaign saves. Treat commands that alter game state as experimental, not as harmless conveniences.
For build testing, use the Toolkit in its intended editor context. For exploring an existing campaign, do not assume the Toolkit command list is a native in-game console. If using third-party tooling, preserve an untouched save and experiment on a copy or a disposable test campaign.
Which route fits your goal?
| Route | Best use | Support status | Main caution |
|---|---|---|---|
| Baldur’s Gate 3 Toolkit debug console | Testing a build or mod project inside the editor | Documented by Larian | The documented commands are editor commands, not a guarantee of safe behavior on live campaign saves. Larian Toolkit shortcut documentation |
| Script Extender console | Third-party debugging or experimentation in supported PC/Linux setups | Third-party tool maintained by Norbyte | Compatibility depends on the current game build; it is not officially supported by Larian. Norbyte’s Script Extender repository |
Choose based on whether you are testing an editor project or exploring a campaign, whether your platform supports the tool, whether your game build is compatible, and whether achievements matter on that save.

What the Toolkit debug console commands do
Larian’s Toolkit shortcut page labels the feature “Debug Console Commands” and gives Ctrl+Shift+F11 to open the editor console. Its documented command examples include:
- Navigation and selection:
goto, pos,Select,SelectByUUID, andSelectPlayer. - Inventory and item creation:
give,givetreasure,spawnItem, andcreate %item% %amount%. - Character and build testing:
addDebugSpell,addDebugSpellAsClass,levelup,ccStartNew,ccStartRespec,god, androll %value%. - Combat and state:
killCombat, peace, endTurnCombat, statusApply, statusRemove, applyPassive, andremovePassive. - Reloading and diagnostics:
reloadStats,reloadStory,dumpOsirisState,reloadUI,reloadLoca, andshroud.
These names signal why caution matters: commands such as give, levelup, god, and reloadStory can affect consequential game data or behavior. Their presence in an editor command reference does not establish that they are available or reversible in a normal campaign.

A cautious workflow for testing or exploring
- Keep a clean fallback. Preserve an untouched save before changing anything. Work on a duplicate save or a disposable test campaign; this is a precaution, not a guarantee that every problem can be undone.
- Use the correct environment. For an editor project, open the Toolkit and use its documented editor console shortcut. For campaign experimentation, recognize that Script Extender is third-party software rather than a Larian-provided native console.
- Change one thing at a time. Avoid combining item, level, story, and combat changes in a single test. This makes unexpected outcomes easier to identify.
- Check the result before continuing. Verify the character, inventory, quest state, and combat behavior relevant to your test. If the result is not what you intended, return to the untouched save rather than carrying the altered state into your main run.
Mods, achievements, and platform limits
Larian’s Community Update #29 states: “Achievements are automatically disabled when you’re using mods, so keep this in mind if you’re still planning on completing your Baldur’s Gate 3 achievements!” That is Larian’s general guidance about using mods, not a command-by-command ruling.
Norbyte’s Script Extender repository describes a DeveloperMode setting for debugging and an EnableAchievements setting for modded games. Those are third-party tool settings, not a Larian guarantee or endorsement, and they do not change Larian’s stated guidance about mods and achievements. If achievements matter, keep a separate unmodded run and do not assume a third-party setting makes a modded run officially achievement-safe.

Mod compatibility also depends on version and platform. Larian’s Patch 8 guidance describes a 100-mod limit for console players in the stated cross-play setup and says players joining a PC host need mods marked as available on console and Mac. Those conditions are specific to that cross-play context, not a universal limit for every local modded save. Larian Patch 8 materials
